This is a two year course - upon successful completion of year 1 students are awarded a level 6 Advanced Certificate in Animal Science with Management (CASXX) and are eligible to apply for year 2.

Course Description
Agriculture and Food are two areas of industry which remain untouched by the current turbulence in the world’s economy. The newly emerging markets of China, India and Africa are largely untapped by Irish industry. The expanding middle class are now demanding better quality foods especially dairy and animal products. Ireland is ideally suited to meeting this increased demand, be it from high value artisan products or bulk products such as dried milk.
The Irish Food Industry is central to the national economy, with Irish food companies being amongst the most successful in the world. The Agri-food sector is Ireland’s largest indigenous industry, accounting for about 6.7% of gross domestic product (€24 billion), 10% of exports and employs over 150,000 people.
Students who undertake this course will study various aspects of Agri-food. As part of the course students will learn about food – where it comes from and how it is processed. Participants will focus on developing skills in many areas including business start-up, nutrition, microbiology, IT and communication. Forensic Science means any science which is used as evidence in a court of law. This course will provide participants with a broad knowledge of the core sciences as well as an understanding of forensics and the legal system.
