Q. HOW DO I APPLY?
You can apply online to Cavan Institute. (Please note: Photo and email are mandatory and course fees are currently being reviewed. A valid email address must be used as correspondence may be made vie email.
Q. I DO NOT HAVE A CREDIT CARD?
You may go to www.3v.ie and acquire a prepay credit card (free).
Q WHAT IS THE DEADLINE FOR RECEIPT OF APPLICATION?
April 2012 - Late Applications may be accepted on some courses.
Q WHAT IS THE REGISTRATION FEE?
If I do not take my place in Cavan Institute, is the €300 registration fee refundable?
€250 of the €300 registration fee is refundable if you do not take your place in Cavan Institute. To process a refund, the 'refund form', downloadable from the website, must be returned to the Institute accompanied by a COPY of the receipt of payment from the bank (top portion of the bank giro).
Q WHAT IS THE PLC STUDENT CONTRIBUTION?
Budget 2011 provided for a reduction in non-pay capitation rates (including the enhanced PLC capitation grant) as well as the introduction of a €200 annual PLC programme participant contribution. This circular sets out the new enhanced capitation rates and the operating arrangements for the PLC programme participant contribution.
The rate changes apply from 1 January 2011 and PLC programme participant contribution arrangments will apply with effect from the 2011/2012 academic year.
Q WHAT IS THE ENTRY/AGE REQUIREMENT?
The PLC Programme caters for those who:
- Have completed senior cycle education, and require further vocational education and training to enhance their prospects of employment or progression to other studies.
- Are adults returning to education who may not have completed the senior cycle but are deemed by the provider to have the necessary competencies and capacity to undertake the Programme.
- Participants must be at least 16 years of age on commencing the course.
- Participants may not repeat a programme.
- Academic entry requirements should be appropriate to the award being offered and may include the Established Leaving Certificate, Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme (LCVP), Leaving Certificate Applied (LCA), FETAC Level 4 or equivalent
Q WHAT ARE THE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS?

Q LETTERS OF REGISTRATION/ATTENDENCE
Letters of registration/attendence will be issued during the month of September. Please retain a copy as a fee may be incurred if a re-issue is required. (There is a 10 working day return on letters).
Q STAMPING OF SOCIAL WELFARE/MEDICAL FORMS ETC
Forms requiring official Cavan Institute stamp should be posted to the Administrative Office with a stamped addressed envelope included. This form will be returned to the name shown within 10 working days. Alternatively the form can be left in the box provided outside the Administrative Office including the stamped addressed envelope for return of same. Forms will not be processed without the inclusion of the SAE.
Q IS THERE AN INTERVIEW?
There are no interviews but all students will be inducted when they start their course.

Q WHAT ARE THE FEES AND HOW DO I PAY?
Payments can be made online, otherwise payment is via Bank Giros (issued by Institute) at any AIB Bank. No cash will be accepted. There is a €300 registration fee. All other fee details are available on www.cavaninstitute.ie
Q I HAVE A MEDICAL CARD – WHAT DO I PAY?
Your medical card covers FETAC exam fees only. Registration fee is paid by all applicants.
Q ARE THE FEES REFUNDABLE IF I DO NOT COMMENCE A COURSE?
Please download and complete a Refund of Fees Form.
Q HOW WILL I KNOW IF MY APPLICATION HAS BEEN RECEIVED?
You will receive an automated response if you apply online, and by post in all other cases.
Q WHEN DO I RECEIVE NOTIFICATION OF ACCEPTANCE?
Conditional offers will be made in June.
Q WHEN DO I REGISTER?
Registration takes place in late August and you will be notified by post/email.
Q I WANT TO CHANGE COURSES. WHAT DO I DO?

Q WHERE DO I FIND ACCOMMODATION DETAILS?

Q WHEN DO I GET MY TIMETABLE?
Classes are scheduled from 9am to 5pm. Timetables available from September (which is subject to change).
Q I’M UNEMPLOYED, DO I PAY FEES, ARE THERE ANY REDUCTIONS?
Contact your local Employment Exchange/FAS with regard to funding.
Q HOW DO I APPLY FOR THE GRANT?
Contact your local VEC Grant Office.
Q WHEN IS MY GRANT PAID?
If the grant application is processed, the 1st instalment is usually paid by the end of October.
Q I DID NOT GET MY GRANT, WHAT DO I DO?
Grant payments are made directly to your account by the your local VEC office.
Q IS MY COURSE FEE REFUNDABLE ON RECEIPT OF GRANT?
No.
Q DOES THE GRANT PAY MY REGISTRATION/COURSE FEES?
No.

Q I HAVE COMPLETED A FETAC COURSE PREVIOUSLY AND AM EXEMPT FROM SOME MODULES. WHAT DO I DO?
You need to contact your class tutor upon commencement of your course.
Q WHEN ARE THE HOLIDAYS?
Holidays are outlined on the Department of Education & Science website.
Q IF I'M OUT SICK WHAT DO I DO?
Doctors certs must be forwarded to your tutor.
Q WHEN ARE MY ASSIGNMENTS DUE?
Assessment Schedules will be available for all Students in September.
Your tutor will notify you of your assignments. Assignments for tutors must be given to your tutor directly.
Q WHEN ARE THE RESULTS OUT?
Results will be posted end of July, no results will be given over the
phone.

Q HOW DO I ARRANGE TO SEE THE GUIDANCE COUNSELLOR?
During term time, Monday – Friday, 11.00 am to 12.30pm, there is a drop-in service (no appointment necessary). All other queries contact careers@cavaninstitute.ie
Q I WANT TO WITHDRAW. WHAT DO I DO?
You need to contact your tutor or career guidance if you wish to withdraw.
Q HOW DO I ARRANGE TO SEE THE DOCTOR?
The Doctor is available in Block A (Main Campus) Tuesday and Thursday afternoon.
Q WHAT ARE THE OFFICE HOURS FOR STUDENTS ENROLLED AT CAVAN INSTITUTE?
9.00 – 10.00 am and 14.00 – 17.00 pm only. These times must be strictly adhered to (these times may vary).
