Acoustic Junction

Music Gig Cavan Institute

Acoustic Junction is the culmination of a year’s work by students of Cavan Institute Music Department. Focusing on original materials and covers, the students will perform an eclectic mix of styles from traditional and rock to heavy metal and jazz.

This annual event on the Institute calendar provides a showcase for the talents of the Music Performance students and the skills of the students on the Music Production course.

“The Music Production course focuses on providing students with hands-on experience and training in the specialised technical area of sound engineering and production,” according to Daire O’Reilly, Sound Engineering tutor. “Students produce a number of live performances and gigs as part of their course work and this event allows them to draw together the skills they have developed throughout the year.”
The students are looking forward to the gig.

The Music Production students work closely with their student colleagues on the Music Performance course. “Live performances and studio recordings are an integral part of the Music Performance course, which is designed for musicians, songwriters and producers,” says Sue Donohoe, Music tutor and well-known musician. “This course provides students with hands-on experience, training and advice on various aspects of the music industry but with a particular focus on performance.”

The student’s performance will be supplemented by performances from Cavan Sinfonia.

Acoustic Junction takes place on the top floor of The Imperial at 8pm on Thursday 18 April. Tickets for the show will be available on the door, priced at €5.

Additional information

The projects had to promote the responsible use of alcohol and/or challenge anti-social drinking behaviours. This year, the DARE2BDRINKAWARE.ie focused on the theme of drinking in a home environment. Home drinking ranges from people enjoying a couple of drinks in their family home to house parties with large numbers of guests in attendance. In recent years, drinking in home settings has become increasingly popular with more than half of the alcohol consumed in Ireland now being purchased in the off-licence trade, rather than in pub settings. All the films have been the culmination of hard work since last September with many hours spent on preparation, storyboards, scripting, filming and editing. The films are edited on Final Cut Pro in Cavan Institute’s Mac Lab using iMacs.
