Message from the Director of Adult Education - Finola Keogh

In our programme listing, I hope that you will find a course appropriate to your needs, be it professional, academic or hobby. By opting to study at Cavan Institute you are making a significant first step towards gaining a recognised qualification or skill. In line with our commitment to the provision of a quality learning environment the majority of courses are accredited by leading awarding bodies. Accreditation is a mark of the quality of courses offered at Cavan Institute on a part-time basis.

As a provider of quality-assured courses, Cavan Institute has valued links with a range of Higher Education providers, including Dundalk Institute of Technology, NUI Maynooth, University of Ulster, Athlone Institute of Technology and the Institute of Public Administration. Students now have lots of opportunities to study to an advanced level within the region. Courses on offer range from degree programmes in Childcare, Business Management and Public Management to national certificate programmes provided by QQI (Quality and Qualifications Ireland), in a variety of disciplines.

Many courses on offer are certified by QQI and at the end of each course or module the student is awarded a Component Certificate. This provides the ideal platform for you to accumulate units or credits towards a full QQI award. Students can use their QQI certification as a means to access, progress and/or transfer to a wide variety of courses throughout the country. QQI certification is recognised by employers both nationally and internationally.

I hope you find a course that stimulates your interest and meets your learning requirements. I welcome your feedback and your suggestions for further courses.

Wishing you every success with your chosen course.

Our Approach to Learning
At Cavan Institute’s Lifelong Learning Centre the student is placed at the centre of the learning process. The cost of each course is set at a level to ensure accessible education of the highest quality for all. Courses run subject to demand. Class sizes are limited, thus ensuring that participants receive more individualised tuition. Cavan Institute maintains a comprehensive database of highly experienced tutors chosen for their academic strength, expert knowledge and practical experience.

Tutors at Cavan Institute fully appreciate that many of the students registering for courses may have been away from education for some time, and are anxious about the classroom environment. The tutors are very supportive and are there to assist you in any way so as to ensure that every student receives a quality education at Cavan Institute.

Information & Enrolment Evenings
Information and enrolment evenings are held in mid-September and mid-January. Both are advertised in local newspapers and on the Institute's social media pages. Students usually enrol online but they can also enrol for their chosen course on information and enrolment evenings. Advice on courses may be obtained at the information evening.

Course Development and Suggestions
Cavan Institute is committed to meeting the education and training needs of the county and it is constantly evolving to reflect changes in the community, industry and education. These needs are changing all the time and we are keen to develop our range of courses and qualifications to constantly maintain their relevance and value.

Courses can also be designed and tailored to meet the specific requirements and training needs of individual businesses and the Institute welcomes suggestions on how best to meet the needs of local employers. Members of the public can submit their suggestions for new courses by contacting Cavan Institute at (049) 4377940 or by email to lifelong@cavaninstitute.ie
