Entry Requirements
Leaving Certificate or Leaving Certificate Applied or LCVP or FETAC/QQI Level 4 Award. Equal consideration will be given to mature applicants (those aged over 23) who do not meet these entry requirements.

Course Description
The purpose of this course is to provide students with the information, skills and practical experience necessary to work in the area of boat building. The proposed course has a strong craft element and will enable students to gain skills in the construction of small wooden craft. There will be a strong focus on the use of modern materials and techniques. This course is aimed at retaining traditional boat making and repair skills, and developing new skills in boat design, building and repair. The course is aimed at those who are interested in boat building and repair as a career and who want to learn the trade and the modern methods required by today’s standards in a working boat shop.

Work Experience
A minimum of 10 days work placement must be completed in a relevant vocational area.

Progression at Cavan Institute
At Cavan Institute: Upon successful completion of this course, you may progress to a FETAC/QQI level 6 course in Furniture Design or Architectural Technology and Design, both available at Cavan Institute.

Elsewhere: Graduates of this course are eligible to apply through the CAO and/or the Higher Education Links Scheme for entry to year one of a range of higher certificate and degree programmes at Institutes of Technology and Universities (please check with the particular institution regarding local eligibility requirements).
