Entry Requirements
Leaving Certificate or Leaving Certificate Applied or LCVP or QQI Level 4 Award. Equal consideration will be given to mature applicants (those aged over 23) who do not meet these entry requirements.
Further Study
At Cavan Institute:
Upon successful completion of this programme, graduates may progress to the level 6 Animal Science (Year 2) course at the Institute.
Elsewhere:
Graduates of this course in Animal Care are eligible to apply through the CAO and/or the Higher Education Links Scheme for entry to year one of a range of higher certificate and degree programmes at Institutes of Technology and Universities (please check with the particular institution regarding local eligibility requirements).
Career Opportunities
Students are given a firm foundation in the skills needed for employment as a Veterinary Assistant or in Animal Care.

About This Course
Veterinary assistants provide basic animal care, assist in laboratory procedures and in the veterinary clinic. They may also work in a variety of other settings including animal hospitals and clinics, animal shelters, laboratories, zoos and animal parks. Students study a range of subjects designed to prepare them for further study or to work as a veterinary assistant or in animal care. This course in Animal Care is ideal for students wishing to advance to veterinary nursing degrees in Ireland and the UK.
