Sports science is the application of scientific principles in order to understand and enhance sport performance, health and well-being. This course in Pre-University Sports Science is ideally suited to students who are interested in progressing to a third level course in a sports science related discipline.

Leaving Certificate or Leaving Certificate Applied or LCVP or QQI Level 4 Award. Equal consideration will be given to mature applicants (those aged over 23) who do not meet these entry requirements.
Further Study
At Cavan Institute:
Graduates of this course in Pre-University Sports Science may progress to a level 6 course in Sports Coaching and Development available at Cavan Institute.
Elsewhere:
Graduates are eligible to apply through the CAO and/or the Higher Education Links Scheme for entry to year one of a range of higher certificate and degree programmes at Institutes of Technology and Universities (please check with the particular institution regarding local eligibility requirements).

About This Course
Modules taught include the core science subjects - chemistry, physics and mathematics. The mathematics module is accepted for entry to higher education courses. These modules form the basis of all first year third level science programmes. In addition, students study exercise and fitness, sports anatomy and physiology which will give them a firm foundation upon which to start their college career.
