Entry Requirements
Leaving Certificate or Leaving Certificate Applied or LCVP or QQI Level 4 Award. Equal consideration will be given to mature applicants (those aged over 23) who do not meet these entry requirements.
Further Study
At Cavan Institute:
Graduates of this course in Sports Coaching and Leisure Management (Year 1) may progress to a level 6 course in Sports Development with Personal Training (Year 2) available at Cavan Institute.
Elsewhere:
Graduates are eligible to apply through the CAO and/or the Higher Education Links Scheme for entry to year one of a range of higher certificate and degree programmes at Institutes of Technology and Universities (please check with the particular institution regarding local eligibility requirements).
Career Opportunities
Graduates of this course in Sports Coaching and Leisure Management (Year 1) have found employment in the leisure and sports sectors, including fitness centres, gyms, hotels and leisure clubs, swimming complexes and in the coaching area.

About This Course
This course is specifically aimed at those interested in coaching or gym instruction. Students will gain practical and theoretical skills necessary for working in the leisure industry. Students will be required to complete a number of coaching sessions throughout the year as well as 10 days' work experience in an appropriate sports-related work environment. Students have the opportunity during this Sports and Fitness Instruction (Year 1) course to complete the following awards: Gaelic Athletic Association Foundation Course Level 1, Football Association of Ireland Player Development Plan 1,as well as the RLSA Pool Lifeguard course (depending upon numbers).
