DIT Bolton Street, Level 7 Engineering Technology in Aviation degree
Patrick from Nobber, Co Meath attended O Carolan College, Nobber and progressed to Cavan Institute to successfully complete QQI Level 5 Motor Vehicle Maintenance course in May 2017.
"I grew up surrounded by the mechanical world because my farther was a mechanic. I was introduced to cars by him. As I progressed through the school system I knew the academic side of school wasn’t for me but I knew I wanted a career in engineering. I did construction, engineering and physics (I did physics because I knew it may come in handy for aviation). By 3rd year, I started to become really interested in the world of aviation. However, my mind was still on cars and I developed a strong interest in modifying cars.
I obtained fairly reasonable results in my Leaving Cert, but knew I didn’t want to commit myself to a full 3-year course and I was thinking about getting an apprenticeship. I decided to apply to Cavan Institute to get a taste of college life. I enrolled in the Motor Vehicle Maintenance & Technology course at Cavan Institute in September, 2016. Throughout my time there I decided that car mechanics was no longer my main priority, but I wanted to strive to get to my dream job working on aircrafts.
I got a lot of career advice from the Careers Guidance at Cavan Institute. I applied through the CAO to Dublin Institute of Technology for the level 7 Engineering Technology in Aviation degree. Thankfully I obtained a full award from Cavan Institute and was accepted to DIT Bolton Street. I started in September 2017 at Bolton Street. I am enjoying my time at DIT and the course is perfect for me. I’m looking forward to a long career in aviation.
I would highly recommend Cavan Institute to anyone looking to build a career in automotive industry, mechanic, body repair or use it as a stepping stone to a engineering degree."
