Entry Requirements
Leaving Certificate or Leaving Certificate Applied or LCVP or QQI Level 4 Award. Equal consideration will be given to mature applicants (those aged over 23) who do not meet these entry requirements.
Further Study
At Cavan Institute:
Upon successful completion of year 1 hairdressing, students can progress to the hairdressing apprenticeship programme. Students can also progress to year 2 hairdressing where they will complete the City and Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Women's Hairdressing and study for the Department of Education Senior Trades and specialised level 6 modules.
Elsewhere:
Should a student wish to pursue an alternative career path after completing year 1, they can use their qualification to gain entry to higher education. Students who have gained a full QQI level 5 award in any discipline are eligible to apply to the CAO and/or the Higher Education Links Scheme for entry to year one of a range of higher certificate and degree programmes at Higher Education Institutions (please check with the particular institution regarding local eligibility requirements).
Career Opportunities
Students can work part-time throughout the course in a junior/trainee capacity in a salon. On completion of year 2 hairdressing, students will be fully qualified with a City and Guilds International Diploma in Hairdressing. Students that embark on the apprenticeship programme will study for a further 2 years and will gain a QQI Level 6 Certificate in Hairdressing.

About This Course
This one year course is aimed at those who would like to pursue a career in hairdressing. Subjects within the course are tailored to suit the hairdressing industry and include cutting, styling, colouring, perming, shampoo and condition and barbering techniques. Students will learn and practice their skills in the onsite hairdressing salons and will have the opportunity to work on models. Work experience is an integral part of the course enhancing employability skills.
