Aoife from Ballyhaise, Co Cavan enrolled on the QQI Level 5 Hairdressing at Cavan Institute in September 2019.

"Starting college as a mature student with children was very nerve wrecking, however Cavan Institute made the transition very relaxed and smooth. They helped with grant applications, childcare and even with my total lack of computer knowledge. There are a number of resources available in the college that are available to all students.

The knowledge and experience I gained on the Hairdressing course last year I will carry with my throughout my life. It's not just about throwing a colour in or a quick trim you are taught everything from the hair structure to layer cuts, mens cuts, hair extensions and wigs to name but a few.

Doing assignments was a whole new concept to me but with the help of fellow students and lecturers I ended up really enjoying them. My advice to anyone thinking of joining Cavan Institute is 'if in doubt go check it out'. There is a course for everyone. Last year I ended up picking up extra modules and doing make up and massage and I also did a gel nail course while juggling home life and the kids, all with the help and thanks of my family, friends and Cavan Institute."
