About This Course

This program prepares students to work in the dynamic, exciting and ever-expanding tourism and travel industry. Demand for suitably trained graduates in the areas of tourism, travel, accommodation, event management and business has never been higher than at present. This course provides students with the skills and competencies to start their university degree or to progress directly to employment.
In addition to this, graduates of the course can also progress to a broad range of degree programmes that are not related to tourism such as post-primary teaching and human resource management. The diverse range of modules on the course optimizes students’ opportunities to progress to a broad range of Level 8 degree programmes in Irish universities.

A strong emphasis on communication, problem-solving and customer service skills, along with the development of research and academic writing skills are important feature of the course.
Students complete a two-week work placement in a customer service, tourism provider, visitor attraction, hotel, or airport setting. Students participate in a range of field trips in Ireland and also have an opportunity to complete a two-week Erasmus+ + placement in an EU country. All of the above provide the students with invaluable hands-on experience of how the tourism and travel industry operates at ground level. This course is also ideally suited to mature students who are changing their career path.
