Entry Requirements

Leaving Certificate or Leaving Certificate Applied or LCVP or QQI Level 4 Award. Equal consideration will be given to mature applicants (those aged over 23) who do not meet this entry requirement.

Career Opportunities

Employment opportunities are varied. Graduates can expect to find employment both at home and abroad with travel agencies, tour operators and visitor attractions as reservation sales agents, travel consultants and receptionists. Students with IAOT accreditation can find employment with airports and airlines as cabin crew and ground staff. This course in Tourism, Business and Airline studies (Year 1) is also ideal for anyone, who wishes to develop their own tourism or accommodation business.

Progression

Cavan Institute: 

Graduates may progress to the level 6 Tourism with Business (Year 2) course.


Elsewhere:

Graduates are also eligible to apply through the CAO and/or the Higher Education Links Scheme for entry to year one of a range of higher certificate and degree programmes at Institutes of Technology and Universities (please check with the  particular institution regarding local eligibility requirements).

About This Course

Core modules prepare students for work in the ever-expanding tourism sector. Students are offered the opportunity to complete the "Ready for Take off" programme leading to a Diploma in International Travel Industry Studies certified by the International Academy of Travel (IAOT). This allows students to avail of the many employment opportunities in the aviation sector, at home and abroad. There is a strong emphasis on communications and customer service skills, and students will develop their ability in problem-solving and dealing with the public.
