At Cavan Institute, we love celebrating the successes of our students, and Charlene Tyrrell is a shining example of what it means to overcome challenges and chase your goals with unwavering determination.
Charlene's journey is one of inspiration and courage—from returning to full-time education as a mature student during the height of the COVID-19 lockdowns to graduating with distinction and being named Student of the Year. Her story proves that no dream is too big when matched with passion and persistence.
From Remote Learning to Academic Excellence
Returning to education isn’t easy, especially in the middle of a global pandemic. But Charlene embraced the challenge. She managed the transition to remote learning, balanced personal responsibilities, and threw herself into her studies with commitment and focus. Her results speak for themselves: top grades, recognition from staff and peers, and a proud graduate with honours.
A Champion On and Off the Field
Charlene’s drive doesn’t stop in the classroom. A passionate athlete, she recently brought home an Ireland Ladies GAA title and was named Fullback on the Intermediate Team of the Year. Her sporting achievements are a testament to her incredible work ethic and commitment to every aspect of her life.
Career Success & Giving Back
Charlene is now thriving in her new role at a local private massage clinic, putting her training and natural empathy to work in a career she loves. But she’s not stopping there. She also serves as a facilitator for the ‘Ahead of the Game’ programme, a joint initiative by the GAA and GPA that supports the mental health and wellbeing of athletes.
Back on Campus—Giving Back
We were delighted to welcome Charlene back to Cavan Institute recently as she returned for a day to update her sports first aid award. Her journey has come full circle—from student to graduate, to mentor and industry professional—and we couldn’t be prouder.
Charlene’s story is a powerful reminder that it’s never too late to start something new, and that with resilience, hard work, and heart, you can achieve more than you ever imagined.
Congratulations, Charlene—you truly are an inspiration!
