Entry Requirements

Leaving Certificate or Leaving Certificate Applied or   LCVP or QQI Level 4 Award. Equal consideration will be given to mature   applicants (those aged over 23) who do not meet these entry requirements.

Further Study

This course also provides common entry to a range of other courses in   Higher Education Institutions through the higher education links scheme such as TU Dublin, Dundalk IT, ATU (formerly known as GMIT), Cork IT, Limerick IT and Carlow IT.


Graduates of this course may progress to level 6 courses Design and Graphics (Year 2), Renewable and Engineering Technology (Year 2) or Furniture Design and Making (Year 2), which are available at Cavan Institute.



Career Opportunities

This course prepares you for progression to a wide range of apprenticeships including brick and stone masonry, carpentry &   joinery, plumbing, plastering, and painting and decorating. Career opportunities include employment with building contractors or developers,   architects, quantity surveyors and local authorities. Graduates are also   prepared for work with manufacturers and suppliers of building products and   materials.

About This Course

This one year course aims to provide students with   the opportunity to develop essential knowledge and practical skills to work in the rapidly growing Construction and Renewable Energy sector who wish to seek entry to Apprenticeships / SOLAS (FAS) / Further Training. It also   prepares students for progression to third-level. It gives students a taste   of all the main construction trades including carpentry & joinery and   building construction. Students will also gain significant on-site experience with some of the largest construction companies in the area.
