  • Tracey O'Rourke | Cavan Institute

Tracey is from Cavan and attended Breifne College, Cavan. Tracey completed QQI Level 5 and Level 6 in Early Childhood Care and Education in Cavan Institute. "When I completed my Level 6 award, I then applied to Letterkenny Institute of Technology via direct entry. This got me into a Higher Certificate level 6 [Year 2 of the Degree]. I am now currently in my 1st Year of my level 7 Degree. I successfully completed my exams in January and then on the last week of January I started my 12 week placement in an early childhood care and education placement in Donegal. When I attended Cavan Institute to complete my Level 5 and Level 6 modules in Early Childhood Care and Education, to be honest, it was tough. There was a lot of work involved, so I just studied and knuckled down as this is what I wanted to do. Some days were better than others and there are days I guess I wanted to give up but I didn't, I pushed on. My tutors in Cavan Institute were such an amazing help and if it wasn't for them and the girls in my class I don’t think I would have got to this point in my studies. The most important skills I developed when doing the course was to know that we all have goals we want to achieve, and sometimes it can be hard to reach the goals but that it is important to be learning in a supportive environment. I saw how important it is to also help each other as much as we can. Everyone is aiming to achieve the same goals at the end of the day! And most of all, never be afraid to ask for help as it was always on hand and the tutors were amazing at it. Cavan Institute prepares you so well for progressing onto another college. The work is tough but it’s extremely beneficial in the long run. I never thought I would have gotten this far, four years are almost complete with my final year to go. Hopefully in May 2019, I will be graduating with a Level 8 Honours Degree in Early Childhood Care Health and Education. If I can do it so can you!" • Aisling Rose McDonald | Cavan Institute

Aisling Rose studied Cultural and Heritage Studies QQI Level 5 with us last year. She is about to start her Higher Education journey in DCU to study for her Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in International Relations. We hope you have a great time in DCU Aisling Rose and thank you for your contribution. It might help another student to make the leap towards Further Education in Cavan Institute. Aisling Rose - "There is an abundance of nice things I would love to express about my time at Cavan Institute. For me, it will remain one of the most beneficial, enlightening and rewarding years of my life. My course enabled me to gain a range of invaluable skills and a fountain of knowledge going forward on my educational journey. The Cultural and Heritage Studies course meant that a multitude of possibilities was opened to me, and I had the brilliant opportunity to learn about the origins and historical background of my home town, delve into and discover how important it is to preserve and protect Irish Heritage and all that it encompasses. I enhanced my French-speaking skills and so much more. The year also rewarded me with being able to acquire practical skills and learn how to incorporate referencing into my assignments. Completing assignments within the time constraints given did supply some stress I will admit, but with the ever-accommodating tutors there to support and guide you, and some self-belief and determination, achieving a high standard of work is possible. The tutors will go above and beyond and answer any queries you may have. I am truly glad that I went to Cavan Institute, and for anyone unsure about whether or not to pursue to a university course, Cavan Institute offers so many courses that will not only gain you a recognised educational achievement but allow many people to have their dreams of moving forward in their pursuit of education manifested into a reality. Anyone who studies the Cultural and Heritage Studies course will not regret it and I can testify to that. I will now be attending DCU for the 2019/2020 academic year, studying International Relations. My experience would not have been the same, if it had not been for some of the overly accommodating, compassionate and helpful tutors, including Patrick Cassidy and Margaret Tiernan among others. I will never forget what they did for me, nor the time I spent there." • Martina O'Reilly | Cavan Institute

Martina from Cavan studied year 1 and year 2 of the Accounting Technician - Computerised Accounting course at Cavan Institute. "At the end of my maternity leave I was due to return to work as a care assistant. I was now a mother to four children and I wanted more for my future. I decided to look into returning to education and on my 35th birthday made the big decision to apply to Cavan Institute for the two year Accounting Technician course and shortly afterwards I received the acceptance letter. I experienced so many emotions over the coming weeks. I was excited about the new challenge but I was also petrified of the new beginning. I felt I had got a second chance and I promised myself I would give it my all. I knew my biggest challenge would be juggling my family and college life but looking back there was no need to worry. The support I received from my classmates was fantastic, but the support I received from the Accounting Technician tutors was outstanding. It went above and beyond my expectations. I cannot thank them enough. At the end of May 2016 I had passed all my exams with Distinction. Three years on from that big decision and I'm working in an accounts office in Bernard Reilly Plant Hire Ltd in Cavan, putting all the skills and knowledge I learned during my time in Cavan Institute into practice. I am continuing my studies online through Cenit College and preparing to sit my first CPA exam. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in the Institute and looking back it was a very positive and life changing experience. I would highly recommend the Accounting Technician at Cavan institute especially for the mature student."
