Traineeship in Youthwork QQI Level 6 Course Code YC Major Award Code Apply Now About This Course This course enables learners to acquire the knowledge, skills and competence to work within a variety of youth work sectors. Learners gain additional skills and knowledge in response to the changing youth work environment and develop and maintain relationships with young people so that they can reach their full potential. Learners are supported and supervised to implement and deliver programmes to young people that adhere to the key community development principles of participation, empowerment and collective decision-making. This traineeship works with many youth services in Cavan and Monaghan where trainees secure their work placements and gain invaluable, practical experience. Additional Information: Individuals will initially complete 5 days per week at Cavan Institute. When placement has been arranged, appropriate training and Garda Vetting is complete, trainees will then start their work experience (usually at Halloween). Individuals will source their own placement, so it is important to have thought about the type of community/youth work that they would like to do. Tracey is from Cavan and attended Breifne College, Cavan. Tracey completed QQI Level 5 and Level 6 in Early Childhood Care and Education in Cavan Institute. "When I completed my Level 6 award, I then applied to Letterkenny Institute of Technology via direct entry. This got me into a Higher Certificate level 6 [Year 2 of the Degree]. I am now currently in my 1st Year of my level 7 Degree. I successfully completed my exams in January and then on the last week of January I started my 12 week placement in an early childhood care and education placement in Donegal. When I attended Cavan Institute to complete my Level 5 and Level 6 modules in Early Childhood Care and Education, to be honest, it was tough. There was a lot of work involved, so I just studied and knuckled down as this is what I wanted to do. Some days were better than others and there are days I guess I wanted to give up but I didn't, I pushed on. My tutors in Cavan Institute were such an amazing help and if it wasn't for them and the girls in my class I don’t think I would have got to this point in my studies. The most important skills I developed when doing the course was to know that we all have goals we want to achieve, and sometimes it can be hard to reach the goals but that it is important to be learning in a supportive environment. I saw how important it is to also help each other as much as we can. Everyone is aiming to achieve the same goals at the end of the day! And most of all, never be afraid to ask for help as it was always on hand and the tutors were amazing at it. Cavan Institute prepares you so well for progressing onto another college. The work is tough but it’s extremely beneficial in the long run. I never thought I would have gotten this far, four years are almost complete with my final year to go. "My experience as a student of Cavan Institute can be described as many things – challenging, demanding, even difficult. While these words might sound a little negative, but I’m so grateful to have experienced these words. Where I met challenges, which may have been demanding and difficult, I was guided through them with care and expertise by my tutors, and the outcomes were always worth the intensive labour that you invested. Personally, I found the more effort, passion, creativity and time I invested in my projects and assignments, the more experienced I gained. Where I stumbled, I may have learned new tricks, a new style, technique, method or gained a better outlook. Casey Maher attended St. Clare’s College, Ballyjamesduff before enrolling on the QQI Level 5 Nursing Studies – Maternity Care course at Cavan Institute during 2019/20. She passed all modules on the course and used her QQI Level 5 award to progress to Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge to undertake the Midwifery BSc (Hons) Degree programme.
