Entry Requirements

QQI Level 5 Award or equivalent in a related discipline, such as art or design, or another creative field. Equal consideration will be given to mature applicants (those aged over 23) who do not meet these entry requirements but can demonstrate industry experience.

Career Opportunities

Jobs available to graduates of this course are diverse and include a range of occupations in 3D design, visual communication, user interface (UI) design, graphic design, architectural design practices and organisations, craft specialists, local authorities, specialist design offices, media, product design and furniture design. Students will develop a competitive edge by producing a portfolio of creative designs that are production ready.

Progression

Through compiling an extensive portfolio as part of this level 6 course, the student will enhance their application to further and higher education. A visual portfolio with the content and context that a level 6 programme provides, can demonstrate design exploration directly relevant to the programme they wish to apply for. In such cases, it is possible to gain module exemptions and/or entry to an advanced stage of a degree programme.

About This Course

Through a broad creative journey, Design & Graphics (Year 2) course content focuses on design technology and many practical applications in relation to art and design. Experimentation with graphics, design materials and construction methods will form the basis of the student’s portfolio and skill set. The role of the designer will be studied in real life projects, integrating a broad range of disciplines and modules.
