Entry Requirements

Leaving Certificate or Leaving Certificate Applied or LCVP or QQI Level 4 Award. Equal consideration will be given to mature applicants (those aged over 23) who do not meet these entry requirements.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of this course will have the necessary skills to apply for work with the emergency care, fire or ambulance services. They will also be qualified to volunteer with organisations such as the Order of Malta. 

Progression

At Cavan Institute: 

Graduates are eligible to progress to the level 6 Health Services Supervi­sory Management course avail­able at Cavan Institute.


Elsewhere: 

Graduates are eligible to apply through the CAO and/or the Higher Education Links Scheme for entry to year one of a range of higher certificate and degree programmes at Institutes of Technology and Universities (please check with the particular institution regarding local eligibility requirements). Students may also apply through UCAS to progress their studies in the UK.

About This Course

This course in Emergency Care Studies leads to a Level 5 award in Health Service skills with additional certification in Emergency First Responder, accredited by The Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council (PHECC). Learners will train for Emergency First Responder incorporating Cardiac First Responder certification which is also PHECC accredited.
