Entry Requirements

Leaving Certificate or Leaving Certificate Applied or LCVP or QQI Level 4 Award. Equal consideration will be given to mature applicants (those aged over 23) who do not meet these entry requirements.

Career Opportunities

Graduates can pursue employ­ment in a care setting, either in the home, in the HSE or in the private health care setting , nursing homes or in residential care institutions. Job prospects are excellent since many institutions are now advertising for health­care staff with this qualification.

Progression

At Cavan Institute: 

Graduates of this course in Healthcare Support may apply for a place on the one-year level 6 Social Care with Counselling Skills also available at Cavan Institute.

Graduates are eligible to apply through the CAO and/or the Higher Education Links Scheme for entry to year one of a range of higher certificate and degree programmes at Higher Education Institutions (please check with the particular institution regarding local eligibility requirements).

About This Course

This Healthcare support course equips the carer with the practical knowledge and skills required to support and assist people in their daily lives. Throughout the Healthcare Support course, students will visit and obtain work experience in a variety of settings. Placement will be monitored by qualified healthcare practitioners.
