Sports and Fitness Instruction

Entry Requirements

QQI level 5 award in Sports, Recreation and Exercise (or equivalent). Equal consideration will be given to mature applicants (those aged over 23) who do not meet this entry requirement but can demonstrate industry experience.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of this course in Sport and Fitness Instruction (Year 1) have found employment in the leisure and sports sectors, including fitness centres, gyms, hotels and leisure clubs, swimming complexes and in the coaching area.

Progression

At Cavan Institute:

Graduates of this course in Sport and Fitness Instruction (Year 1) may progress to a level 6 course in Sports and Fitness with Personal Training (Year 2).


Elsewhere:

Graduates are eligible to apply through the CAO and/or the Higher Education Links Scheme for entry to year one of a range of higher certificate and degree programmes at Higher Education Institutions (please check with the particular institution regarding local eligibility requirements).

About This Course

This course is specifically aimed at those interested in coaching or gym instruction. Students will gain practical and theoretical skills necessary for working in the leisure industry. Students will be required to complete a number of coaching sessions throughout the year as well as work experience in an appropriate sports-related work environment.
