Course Overview
The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the basics of dog grooming. This course will start with a theory class that provides an overview of the equipment involved in grooming and how to maintain it. This is followed by three practical classes that will demonstrate the process involved in a groom, introducing you to the different ways to groom a variety of breed and coat types.
You will also learn important elements related to housing a dog, a dog’s body language, the dog’s skin and possible skin disorders. This will be followed by three practical classes.
Students are advised to apply early for this course as it tends to fill up quickly.




Course Content
Topics covered on this course include:
Theory: equipment, grooming process, how to care for the dog throughout the groom, reading its body language
Practical: The grooming process
• Wash and blow dries only (smooth coated dogs)
• How to groom dogs with double-coated fur, e.g., huskey, rough collie, German Shepherd, Bernese mountain dog
• De shedding process, followed by wash and blast dry
• Brushing/combing/clipping of dogs
• How to groom dogs with curly coats, e.g., cockapoo, poodle, bichon frise
