Course Overview
This five-week course delivered on a Friday afternoon is designed to help you build your confidence and skills in drawing, whether you’re starting from scratch or coming back to it after years away. It focuses on learning to see differently, to notice shape, proportion, light and texture, and translating that onto paper in a straightforward, manageable way.
You’ll explore core drawing techniques through practical exercises and short projects, working with simple materials like pencil, charcoal and paper. The emphasis is on process over perfection; making marks, learning from mistakes and gradually sharpening your visual awareness.
Each session mixes demonstration, guided practice and individual support. There’s space to experiment and develop your own style, without pressure or comparison.
By the end of the course, you’ll have a small collection of drawings and a toolkit of skills you can continue building on at home or put into practice as part of Cavan Institute’s Oil Painting or Watercolours courses
