Course Overview
There’s nothing like receiving a handmade gift or card at Christmas. This relaxed and creative two-session workshop will introduce you to the simple techniques needed to create a unique festive textile collage using fabric scraps, hand embroidery and simple embellishment.
Working with a selection of colourful fabrics and threads, you will develop your own festive design and transform it into a stitched decorative panel. Your finished piece can then be applied to a Christmas card, premade cushion cover or tote bag, creating a personal handmade gift or decoration.
Delivered over two Friday afternoons in Cavan Institute’s Fashion Design room, the workshop is suitable for beginners and improvers. With a focus on creativity, mindful making and the sustainable use of fabric remnants, you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy a fun and festive introduction to textile collage and embroidery.
Course Content
As part of this course you will:
Design a simple festive textile collage
Work with fabric scraps, layering and appliqué
Explore simple hand embroidery and decorative stitching
Add embellishment and embroidered details
Develop a finished stitched panel for use on a card, tote bag or cushion cover
