Course Overview
This eight-week evening course introduces learners to the rich tradition and techniques of Aran knitting, a distinctive Irish style known for its textured patterns, cables and symbolic motifs. Across the programme, you’ll move from foundational cable techniques to designing and completing your own Aran-inspired project.
You’ll work with traditional stitches such as cables, moss stitch and bobbles, while also building confidence in reading knitting charts, managing complex patterns, and finishing garments to a high standard. By the end of the course, you’ll not only have completed a child’s Aran jumper but
also gained the skills to tackle more advanced knitting patterns independently.
The course combines practical demonstrations, guided practice, cultural context and the chance to learn with and from others. Expect a relaxed, collaborative atmosphere where questions are encouraged and everyone progresses at their own pace.
*Please note that this class is not suitable for beginners. Participants must already know how to cast on, knit, purl and cast off.
