Music and Sound Production QQI Level 5 Course Code MA Major Award Code 5M2149 Apply Now About This Course This course allows students to develop a broad range of knowledge and skills in audio and music technology, sound engineering and production and musicianship. Students will gain hands-on experience in studio work (audio tracking, audio mixing), composition with technology and radio production in our high-spec studios and multimedia editing suites. I knew that I wanted to study music in college, but I didn’t want to repeat my leaving cert. So, I decided to do a level 5 QQI/Btec course in music and sound production here in Cavan Institute. Little did I know that doing a PLC in Cavan Institute was the best thing for me at that time, as I made a lot of new friends who were interested in music as much as I am. In my course, I got to learn the piano and I improved on my music theory also. When I went to Cavan Institute I had little to no knowledge about music production nor music technology which was a worry for me at first but with the help of my tutors and my fellow colleagues I learned so much about the production/technology side of the course. Studying in Cavan Institute has taught me very important skills for college such as getting used to ‘Moodle’, academic referencing in assignments was very important for me to learn as I'll always have to do that in college. I also learned how to take in information in a college unlike secondary school, college has a different way of teaching you the information you need for your assignments/exams. Erasmus Programme Erasmus Plus Cavan Institute students who wish to complete their mandatory work placement in Europe can apply to the Erasmus+ Programme. The Programme is open to all registered, full-time students on registered courses. Work placements and accommodation are arranged by Cavan Institute with partners in host countries. On completion of the placement abroad, students will be required to submit a report to Cavan Institute which is forwarded to the European Union. Cultural Experience You can experience living in another culture, enjoy travelling, improve language skills, gain a Europass Qualification, add this experience to your CV and get that valuable job. Cavan Institute's PLC Access course supports Youthreach & LCA students with Level 4/5 modules, college experience, and access to training allowances and laptops. Course Overview The Level 5 PLC Access programme is aimed at students coming directly from a Youthreach or Leaving Certificate Applied (LCA) course. This bridging programme allows students to experience college life in Cavan Institute in a supported environment, while completing Level 4 and 5 modules. Students can sample the course areas they are interested in progressing to at Cavan Institute. Students may be entitled to a training allowance and support, including access to a laptop to help them complete the Access course. The Access course is designed to find the most suitable course for you while developing your academic skills. Thomas Hanley completed the Leaving Certificate at Virginia College in June 2015 and like so many Leaving Certificate students was unsure of which career path to choose. After considering a number of courses, Thomas chose the Motor Vehicle Maintenance QQI level 5 course at Cavan Institute. He believed the course would provide him with a number of progression opportunities either to an apprenticeship, QQI level 6 here at Cavan Institute or a Level 7 Degree in DIT.
