- Anita Maguire | Cavan Institute
Anita from Ballyjamesduff, Co. Cavan completed the one year Diploma in Complementary Therapy course at Cavan Institute in May 2017. "I met with the staff of Cavan Institute at the open day, following this up with telephone calls and some serious soul searching before I enrolled on the Complementary Therapies course in September 2016. Holistics, mental health and stress management are areas I have always been fascinated with and here was my opportunity to learn more in a structured environment and gain a recognised qualification. As a professional who worked for 20 plus years in accounting and finance roles this was a complete diversion and major decision to return to full time education. The course was intensive, more than I envisaged, because it followed both QQI/FETAC and ITEC (internationally recognised) programmes. As a class we were exposed to an all round experience from running an onsite clinic to practical case studies, presentations, diet planning, developing creams and lotions, marketing and design and 2 weeks work experience but through hard work and the support of highly trained and passionate tutors and amazing classmates I completed the course in May 2017. It has been my personal journey and was right for me at that moment. Who knows what the future holds but I am thrilled to be awarded ITEC Diplomas in Aromatherapy, Reflexology, Holistic Massage and Indian Head Massage along with QQI/FETAC Certificate in Community Health Services all at distinction level. I put in 100% effort and enjoyed the whole experience as a mature student, a big thank you Cavan Institute." Niamh is from Ballyjamesduff, Co Cavan. She attended St Clare's College, Ballyjamesduff. Niamh studied year 1 and year 2 of the Creative Digital Media course at Cavan Institute. Niamh committed fully to her studies and engaged with every event and task assigned during her time at Cavan Institute. Niamh is deferring her college degree in Multimedia in DCU as she takes up a Junior Designer role at Opus Web Design at Cavan Digital Hub. No doubt Niamh's excellent design skills and knowledge will be well utilised. Niamh told us that "Cavan Institute is such a good stepping stone to getting what you want to do in life. I was inexperienced after my Leaving Cert and was super disappointed with my results, but going to Cavan Institute has helped me so much in doing what I want to do with my life. I’ve had the opportunity to go work in Finland through Léargas and Erasmus+ and attended an Adobe Design competition in London. Before COVID-19 hit, I had an opportunity to do an Internship in America for a year. However, I got my dream job out of Cavan Institute which I am in right now. The tutors in CI are really kind and understanding. A PLC is definitely worth doing if you don’t know where to go from Leaving Cert." Ivan Mosart from Navan, completed QQI Level 5 Business Studies Accounting and Finance course at Cavan Institute in 2020-2021. Ivan successfully gained a place on the level 8 Degree in Accounting and Finance in GMIT, using the CAO ‘Round Zero’ Offers, and was delighted to hear in early August 2021, that he had secured his place using this new system. "I chose to do the accounting and finance course, as it was something that I also wanted to do since secondary school. The course provided me with a great insight into the Irish business and accounting practices. We used both manual and computerised accounting systems and I found this very interesting. I knew that this course would help me to develop and grow for my future career and give me many opportunities. The tutors were all so friendly and supportive, and so dedicated to their work. I also went to career guidance, who steered me into the right path after my course in Cavan Institute. Thanks to all the wonderful tutors and staff for giving me a great start to college life." - Áine McGovern | Cavan Institute
Áine from Ardvaugh, Glangevlin, Co Cavan enrolled on the QQI Level 5 Sports Coaching and Leisure Management at Cavan Institute in September 2019. After successfully completing the course, she used her QQI Level 5 to apply through CAO and was offered her first choice, the BSc (Hons) in Health and Physical Activity at Dundalk Institute of Technology. Áine commented that "my time at Cavan Institute was very enjoyable and beneficial, from attending the college not alone did I receive outstanding help from my tutors but I also grew a bond with them as they treated everyone equally. The encouragement I received from my lecturers was excellent. As a result of this, I qualified as a pool lifeguard and received numerous coaching and gym qualifications. From completing the Sports Coaching and Leisure Management course it allowed me to build my confidence and communication skills as I presented numerous coaching classes and class presentations in front of my classmates. The help I received while carrying out my assignments has prepared me for attending Dundalk Institute of Technology in 2020/21. I would like to thank my two main tutors Bryan Bates and Mary McEnroe for making my experience at Cavan Institute unforgettable. The encouragement and enthusiasm I received throughout the entire year allowed me to achieve excellent grades and the student of the year award. My course enabled me to enhance my knowledge of nutrition, coaching techniques and the different functions of the human body. Attending Cavan Institute was one of my most enjoyable years as I met many inspirational people and some lifelong friends. Cavan Institute provides a broad range of courses and I would highly recommend it to students unsure of their future studies as it is a great indicator to gain more knowledge of the course you may wish to complete in an Institute of Technology or University. During my time at Cavan Institute, I played alongside very skilled girls on the Gaelic football team, as a result of the talent we reached the semi-final stages. I would also like to thank Bryan Bates and Shane McCabe for coaching us throughout the year helping us to achieve this and selecting me as ladies footballer of the year. I had the privilege of being chosen to travel to Torquay in England on an Erasmus trip which allowed me to learn more about leisure facilities and the fitness sector in general. I would like to thank Dawn Graham for making the Erasmus trip possible. Without the people mentioned above, my experience would not have been the same and I will forever be grateful."
