- Anita Maguire | Cavan Institute
Anita from Ballyjamesduff, Co. Cavan completed the one year Diploma in Complementary Therapy course at Cavan Institute in May 2017. "I met with the staff of Cavan Institute at the open day, following this up with telephone calls and some serious soul searching before I enrolled on the Complementary Therapies course in September 2016. Holistics, mental health and stress management are areas I have always been fascinated with and here was my opportunity to learn more in a structured environment and gain a recognised qualification. As a professional who worked for 20 plus years in accounting and finance roles this was a complete diversion and major decision to return to full time education. The course was intensive, more than I envisaged, because it followed both QQI/FETAC and ITEC (internationally recognised) programmes. As a class we were exposed to an all round experience from running an onsite clinic to practical case studies, presentations, diet planning, developing creams and lotions, marketing and design and 2 weeks work experience but through hard work and the support of highly trained and passionate tutors and amazing classmates I completed the course in May 2017. It has been my personal journey and was right for me at that moment. Who knows what the future holds but I am thrilled to be awarded ITEC Diplomas in Aromatherapy, Reflexology, Holistic Massage and Indian Head Massage along with QQI/FETAC Certificate in Community Health Services all at distinction level. I put in 100% effort and enjoyed the whole experience as a mature student, a big thank you Cavan Institute." No doubt Niamh's excellent design skills and knowledge will be well utilised. Niamh told us that "Cavan Institute is such a good stepping stone to getting what you want to do in life. I was inexperienced after my Leaving Cert and was super disappointed with my results, but going to Cavan Institute has helped me so much in doing what I want to do with my life. I’ve had the opportunity to go work in Finland through Léargas and Erasmus+ and attended an Adobe Design competition in London. Before COVID-19 hit, I had an opportunity to do an Internship in America for a year. However, I got my dream job out of Cavan Institute which I am in right now. The tutors in CI are really kind and understanding. A PLC is definitely worth doing if you don’t know where to go from Leaving Cert." - Brianna McGorman | Cavan Institute
Brianna from Rockcorry, Co Monaghan attended St Louis Secondary School, Carrickmacross and progressed to Cavan Institute to undertake and complete QQI Level 5 Business Studies course in May 2019. "I choose to study this course as I had just completed my leaving certificate and I was very unsure about what career path I wanted to take before heading to a University. The Business Studies course was very educational and highly beneficial. Throughout the year, I studied 10 different modules, work experience being mandatory. The tutors were very helpful and were always there to guide and support the students. This course gave me great practical skills and really boosted my confidence while completing presentations and submitting class assignments. The highlight of the year for me would be the Erasmus Trip in which I got the opportunity to travel to Slovenia with the college to work in a business environment for two weeks. This trip really broadened my understanding of business while travelling and taking in a new culture which is something I would love to do in the future. The work experience trip made me realise that I wanted to pursue my studies in Business. I cannot recommend Cavan Institute enough with all the experience that I gained which I now will benefit from while studying Business Studies in Dundalk Institute of Technology. A huge thank you to my tutors Michelle Marron and Maureen Lynch for being so helpful and supportive throughout the year." - Monika Cerekaviciute | Cavan Institute
"There was no doubt in my mind about choosing to enrol in Cavan Institute after seeing the successes my friends have reached in their careers by attending this college. It was the best decision I had ever made to attend here, not only because I got to expand my knowledge and earn a qualification in doing so, but also because I made friends for life who share similar interests as myself. I have my class tutors to thank as they were extremely supportive throughout the year and always offered a helping hand, even if I just needed a chat, or some guidance with an assignment. Every single module that this course delivered was extremely beneficial. I found that having work experience as a module was especially useful because I got hands-on experience in this field of work and will now feel confident seeking full-time employment once I complete my Level 6 in Early Childhood Care and Education next year. I am also very delighted to say that I managed to get a summer job in the creche I did my work experience in. If there was no work experience module, I would not have gotten this amazing opportunity. I know just how nerve-wrecking it can be having to sit a big exam at the end of the year, containing questions about everything you’ve had to take in from September until May. In that situation, a lot of us would crack under pressure and underperform, affecting our final grades. Luckily, Cavan Institute takes a different approach to assess their students, called continuous assessment. I found this method of assessment to be much more effective than any other form of assessment. Having guest speakers come in and talk to us students was very advantageous as it gave us a greater insight as to what childcare and special needs assisting entails. We also got to do a Patient Moving and Handling course, first aid course, and a Lámh course. These courses are very beneficial to us students and I’m incredibly grateful that the college, along with my class tutors, provided us with an opportunity to complete them. I am so happy I chose to enrol in Cavan Institute and I cannot wait to return this September to complete Level 6 Early Childhood Care and Education." Wishing you all the very best in your studies and career Monika.
