  • Chloe Creighton | Cavan Institute

Chloe from Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan attended Inver College, Carrickmacross. Chloe completed the QQI Level 5 Make-up Artistry in Cavan Institute in May 2017. "I have always had a passion for Makeup Artistry and from a young age I new that it was the career path that I was going to follow. In my final year of school I spent a lot of time searching for courses which were solely focused on makeup artistry. Most of them were private, which came with a big price and I began to think would it be worth it? Until one day my career guidance teacher told me about Cavan Institute and their Makeup Artistry course that covered all aspects of makeup artistry and offered you your full ITEC Diploma, just like a private college would but for a lot less. I decided to go for the course and it was the best decision I've made. The course covered everything from skincare & hygiene to makeup artistry & business skills which helped shape the makeup artist that I am today. My makeup artistry tutor Patricia Loughlin had a huge impact on me throughout the year, she pushed me to the best of my ability and helped me to not lose focus on the end result. Patricia puts so much time and effort into each and every student with projects, portfolios and assignments which made our college experience a lot less stressful and more enjoyable. After a full year of hard work and dedication to makeup artistry, I was delighted to pass all my exams and receive my ITEC Diploma. I can't thank all the amazing tutors enough for pushing me and helping me along the way. Since completion of this course I was lucky enough to have been offered my dream job with Inglot Dundalk, just 4 months after qualifying. I want to push myself within the company and achieve as much as I can, and with hard work and dedication I was promoted to Inglot Dundalk's Product Specialist in January. Inglot Ireland hosted their first ever annual awards ceremony in March 2018. I was nominated as a finalist under the category Product Specialist of the Year. After the voting stages were over, I attended the the awards ceremony. On the night I was so grateful and overwhelmed to have won and be presented the award for Inglot Ireland's first ever Product Specialist of the year. This is just the beginning! With hard work, motivation and dedication I will continue to grow and achieve all that I possibly can in the future!" • Mark McDermott | Cavan Institute

Mark McDermott from Killygarry, Cavan began his Engineering Technology studies with us in September 2022. After successfully completing his QQI Level 5 award with 8 distinctions, Mark secured a round zero offer on 3 August 2023 for a level 8 degree in Mechanical Engineering at TUD. Mark secured a sports scholarship while studying at Cavan Institute. "Before going to Cavan Institute I was unaware of the opportunities that were available to me. I had thoughts of entering an Engineering course but was unsure if it was right for me. Cavan Institute had Level 5 Engineering Technology course that I really liked the sound of. My plan was to do a one-year course and gain my qualification. Cavan Institute provided me with a great insight into the engineering world. In my year of study on this course, many topics were covered to help confirm my interest in engineering. I had various modules throughout the year that helped me gain confidence and knowledge in engineering subjects I had not studied previously. Previously I had no experience of the engineering workshop processes module. It was a great introduction to using new tools and technologies. My favourite module was Auto-Cad (Computer Aided Draughting 2D) as it was great to learn a new software from scratch, I know it will be very useful to me in my future studies and work. There are great work experience opportunities. I spent 10 days at ATA Group Cavan. I found working in a successful company was a great help in understanding how qualified engineers work from day to day. In my year at Cavan Institute, I played football. I was delighted to have the opportunity to play for another team and compete against other colleges and universities in Ireland. I was fortunate to gain a sports scholarship. I also must give a big thanks to all my tutors. They were more than helpful throughout my year. They were very understanding and supportive. They made sure each assignment was completed to a very high standard. I had great support from the Career Guidance team. Aoife Ward helped me become aware of the many opportunities of progression there was from this Engineering Technology course." Best of luck with your future studies and career! • Strategic Plan | Cavan Institute | Cavan, Ireland

Cavan Institute's strategic plan reflects two years of staff-led collaboration, focused on excellence, innovation, and embracing change for future success. Strategic Plan This strategic plan, the culmination of two years’ work by a wide variety of stakeholders, has been driven largely by Cavan Institute’s staff, who have demonstrated their capacity to identify new opportunities, seek excellence and embrace change. They have been central to the Institute’s success and will readily accept the responsibilities associated with the implementation of the proposed strategy. The development of the plan involved extensive teamwork. In addition to a Strategic Planning Steering Group, led by the management team, working groups were established for specific tasks. The contribution of staff members who joined these groups was highly significant in that they conducted the research, undertook the data collection and put forward ideas of central importance to the future of the Institute. Institute students and graduates, who were consulted by different means and at various stages, have also helped to shape this vision. The involvement of staff from post-primary schools, Youthreach, the adult education sector, Institutes of Technology (AIT, DKIT and ITB) and NUI Maynooth has helped to determine the thrust of the final document and, through an ongoing partnership, to reflect the important role played by this Institute in Irish further education. It is expected that the extent and level of consultation associated with this plan will provide added credibility to its ultimate aim, which is to enrich the lives and enhance the career prospects of each student whom Cavan Institute is privileged to serve Download More from Cavan Institute Courses All Courses Apply Online Start Here Supports Support Services FAQs Get Answers Contact Us If you have any questions, please get in touch. • Abigail Brennan | Cavan Institute

Abigail Brennan joined us in September 2021. She is from Longford and tells her story here. "In 2021, I was unsure of what career path to follow. After researching many courses, I decided on the Office Administration and Technology course at Cavan Institute. It has a range of both practical and theoretical modules, with good employment and progression opportunities. Travel to the college was convenient for me and the fees were low. The course has more than met my expectations and has been enjoyable, rewarding and confidence boosting. The teachers are all, without exception, enthusiastic, encouraging, helpful, supportive and positive. Work experience is a key element of the course, and we were required to find a ten-day placement. I had no experience of office work and was unsure of how to find a placement that would be beneficial, suitable and enjoyable for me. My work experience teacher gave me advice on job finding, CV preparation and interview skills as well as the contact details of local employers who were, at that time, offering placements to suitable candidates. This gave me the confidence to apply for and secure a part time receptionist’s job at the Cavan Crystal Hotel. This I have been able to do at weekends whilst I complete my course. A collaborative approach to learning is encouraged and, as a result, our class group were really friendly and sociable both online and on site. It was a very effective way to work and learn and it helped us all progress very well. There was a good mix of students with some who had just left school, mature students and both male and female in the class. It meant we mixed with people of different ages and backgrounds and nationalities. We forged great friendships and made time for tea breaks and laughter along the way. Under the guidance of our tutor, we became a connected and inclusive group. My advice is if you are unsure of what career path to follow the Office Administration and Technology course is a great place to start as the skills learned are useful no matter what area of work you eventually decide to enter." • Devorca McCann | Cavan Institute

Devorca from Cavan town, completed QQI Level 5 Pre-University Law and QQI Level 6 Administration and IT for Business at Cavan Institute. "I studied level 5 pre-university law and level 6 administration and IT skills. I chose to do the pre-university law course in Cavan Institute. It provided me with a great insight into the Irish law system. It provided me with practical skills that are required in the work place. As part of both courses, one mandatory subject was work experience. I believe that if I had not completed my work experience in a solicitor's office, I wouldn't be where I am today. The work experience gave me great knowledge on how a legal office works. I was also trained up on the software which is used in many legal offices. I am now working in a solicitor's office, being trained as a legal secretary. My courses in Cavan Institute gave me a great insight and has helped me in many ways. I now have the opportunity to become a qualified legal secretary. I can progress to a level 7 Diploma in Legal Studies and Practice in Griffith College."
