On Thursday, 19 March, the air at Cavan Institute was filled with melody and rhythm as our Music and Sound Production students hosted their highly anticipated end-of-year musical showcase.
This wasn't just a concert; it was a testament to the diversity and dedication of our creative arts department. The stage became a melting pot of global sounds, proving that music truly is a universal language.
A Journey Through Genre
The audience was treated to an eclectic setlist that spanned continents and eras. The showcase lived up to its promise of variety, featuring:
Rock & Folk: High-energy performances and soulful storytelling that kept the crowd engaged.
Classical: Moments of technical precision and timeless beauty.
Middle Eastern Music: Captivating scales and rhythms that brought a unique, international flair to the afternoon.
Powered by Our Own: A 100% In-House Music and Sound Production
What makes these events truly special at Cavan Institute is the collaborative effort behind the scenes. This wasn't just a performance for the musicians—it was a live "office day" for our Audio and Music Production students.
Working in the shadows of the wings and behind the mixing desks, these students managed the entire technical setup:
Live Sound Engineering: Balancing levels for everything from acoustic folk sets to full rock bands.
Lighting Design: Creating the atmosphere and visual cues to match the mood of each genre.
Stage Management: Ensuring seamless transitions between acts.
By running the event as a completely in-house project, our technical students gained the kind of high-pressure, real-world experience that is essential for a career in the live events industry.
Well Done to All!
A massive congratulations to all the performers who stepped into the spotlight and the technical crew who made sure they sounded and looked incredible. Events like these highlight the talent, hard work, and professional standards fostered within our Music and Sound department.
To the staff and students involved, take a bow!
