    Round Zero students include QQI applicants for limited-place courses like Nursing, Social Care, Law & more—guided by quality assurance principles. Progression Round Zero Progression Round Zero offers came out on 8 August 2020. Students who fall into the Round Zero category include applicants who are presenting QQI qualifications for courses that have a limited number of places available for these students. These include Nursing, Social Care, Veterinary Nursing, Commerce and Law, to name just a few. We have had many students in Cavan Institute gain access to Higher Education this year using this option. Many courses have an entry route for applicants presenting QQI/FET, but do not have a specific quota. These courses will be offering places in Round One on 11 September 2020. We wish all our students the very best of luck in securing an offer and progressing with their education. National Framework of Qualifications Established in 2003, the Irish National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) is a 10-level, single national entity through which all learning achievements may be measured and related to each other. Underpinned by quality assurance principles, the Irish NFQ describes qualifications in the Irish education and training system and sets out what each qualification says about what learners know, understand and are able to do.     Lana is from Longford and attended Moyne Community School. Lana studied 3D Design & Graphics in 2019-2020 at Cavan Institute. Lana is currently studying Interior Architecture and Design degree at ATU Sligo. Lana chose to go to Cavan Institute after her leaving cert because she was not fully sure what design discipline she wanted to study in college. Lana told us about her journey at Cavan Institute: "I went to the career days and open days at Cavan Institute during the summer and talked with career guidance who guided me in the direction of doing a general design course. This allowed me to study all areas of design and help me decide what area I wanted to go on to study. I think this really helped me see which areas I was best in and which areas I gravitated towards more, although I enjoyed learning new software's (AutoCAD, Photoshop & Solid Works) and also the practical elements of the course (furniture making etc.).I knew I most enjoyed doing AutoCAD. The modules were all helpful to me and all the tutors were really interested in the work you were doing. This was something I felt really made me enjoy my time in Cavan Institute, you had the independence of a college feeling and the work you were doing but help was there all the time whenever you needed it. I think what helped me most in Cavan Institute was how the tutors taught you the very basics and worked the way up to show you everything, this really allowed me to learn how assignments had to be done to the highest standard, even when it was something simple. The continuous help from all my tutors was beneficial to me, they helped you through all your assignments and guided you from the start to the end of the assignments. My course was all continuous assessment which I enjoyed, this broke up the year and did not have you focused on one exam at the end of the year and rather had you working through from the beginning to the end and build a portfolio of work. This helped you to enjoy the classes you were in and the work you were doing in class was going to be marked and graded so you really tried your best when doing it." Commis Chef Apprenticeship QQI Level 6 Course Code YB Major Award Code Apply Now About This Course Apprentices will gain the skills and knowledge to prepare, cook and present a wide variety of dishes and commodities to a professional standard. The apprentice will gain an internationally recognised qualification, continue to earn whilst they learn with an employer of their choice, enrich their work immediately as they acquire new skills and enhance their employment prospects and career opportunities. The duration of the course is two full years. It begins with a three week five day structured induction in college and then continues with 2 days in college per week from September to June and one day per week in July and August. The remaining days per week are spent with a SOLAS approved employer, working whilst gaining on-the-job skills. Assessments are completed in both college and the workplace. Cavan studied Pre-University Law at Cavan Institute and progressed to Maynooth University to study Law and Psychology. “I have always had a keen interest in Law, however, school just wasn’t for me. I ended up leaving secondary school in sixth year and I didn’t complete my Leaving Certificate. At the time, I thought that I had completely ruined my chances of becoming a solicitor and working in the legal industry. I applied for the Pre-University Law course at Cavan Institute, expecting not to get accepted. One year later, I am now heading to Maynooth University to study Law and Psychology.
