  • Darragh Sweeney | Cavan Institute

Daragh is from Cavan and completed QQI Level 6 course in Administration and IT for Business in Cavan Institute in May 2019. "In 2018/2019 I completed a QQI Level 6 course in Administration and IT for Business. It was the best year of my life. It helped me figure out what career direction I wanted to pursue. The course gave me a great combination of subjects – a good mix of practical and theory subjects. It helped me mature and it gave me the skills to get my summer job and I now have this job at weekends while I attend NCI. I had fantastic tutors, they gave me great advice, encouragement and guidance. They always looked out for me. I made many great friends and joined the College soccer team. I really enjoyed this. Now I know that I would love to play soccer for NCI. I am now doing a BA (Honours) degree in Human Resource Management in the National College of Ireland." • Martina O'Reilly | Cavan Institute

Martina from Cavan studied year 1 and year 2 of the Accounting Technician - Computerised Accounting course at Cavan Institute. "At the end of my maternity leave I was due to return to work as a care assistant. I was now a mother to four children and I wanted more for my future. I decided to look into returning to education and on my 35th birthday made the big decision to apply to Cavan Institute for the two year Accounting Technician course and shortly afterwards I received the acceptance letter. I experienced so many emotions over the coming weeks. I was excited about the new challenge but I was also petrified of the new beginning. I felt I had got a second chance and I promised myself I would give it my all. I knew my biggest challenge would be juggling my family and college life but looking back there was no need to worry. The support I received from my classmates was fantastic, but the support I received from the Accounting Technician tutors was outstanding. It went above and beyond my expectations. I cannot thank them enough. At the end of May 2016 I had passed all my exams with Distinction. Three years on from that big decision and I'm working in an accounts office in Bernard Reilly Plant Hire Ltd in Cavan, putting all the skills and knowledge I learned during my time in Cavan Institute into practice. I am continuing my studies online through Cenit College and preparing to sit my first CPA exam. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in the Institute and looking back it was a very positive and life changing experience. I would highly recommend the Accounting Technician at Cavan institute especially for the mature student." Leah from Swellan, Cavan attended Breifne College, Cavan and commenced the QQI Level 5 Make-up Artistry course in Cavan Institute in September 2019. "In the year 2019 September, I studied Makeup Artistry in Cavan Institute and received my Fashion, Media and Theatre ITEC Diploma. I loved this course and it was fun to do and I learned many new things throughout the year. I especially enjoyed doing Special Effects as I love doing special effects makeup looks and Halloween is my favourite time of the year. Another favourite element of the course for me was doing the 1920-1980’s period looks, as it was fun to do makeup and dress up my model and create an overall look. I made some good friends in my class and my tutor Patricia was very helpful and encouraging throughout the year. I am so glad I did this course as it was a great experience. After completing my Makeup Artistry Course, in the Summer I started my own makeup and eyelash extensions business from home. I will be attending The Beauty Institute in Athlone to do a Facial Electrical Treatment course and also Brow Lamination and Lash Lift day courses throughout the year and I’m really exited for that!"
