- Imani Tutu | Cavan Institute
Imani from Cavan town enrolled on the QQI Level 5 Pre-University Law course at Cavan Institute in September 2016. After successfully completing the course, he was offered a place in BCL (Hons) in UCC. "I was just completing my QQI level 4 award, ESOL programme (English for Speakers of Other Languages) 2015-2016. After completing that programme I did not know what was my next step, things like what course, what college were occurring in my head. Then I heard that Cavan Institute were holding an Open Day for the academic year 2016-2017. Without hesitation I attended. As I have always been interested in legal and political matters, I brightly foresaw my future after attending Cavan Institute's open day and then I realised that Cavan Institute offers a legal studies course (Pre-University Law) QQI level 5, I did not think twice. This course (Pre-University law) in Cavan Institute provided me a foundation knowledge of Irish law and Irish legal systems. During my time spent in Cavan Institute, I had the opportunity to participate in the Erasmus Plus Programme (Erasmus plus programme allows student to undertake a work placement abroad). Cavan Institute and the Pre-University law course provided a great qualification which allowed me to secure a place in BCL (Hons) in the University College Course (UCC). Our tutors were very friendly and they were always willing to help. In Cavan Institute all student are treated equally no matter their backgrounds, race or gender. The students’ nights out were amazing, just wow…. If there were a level 8-degree course I would love to stay there for few more years. - Leah McDade | Cavan Institute
Leah from Swellan, Cavan attended Breifne College, Cavan and commenced the QQI Level 5 Make-up Artistry course in Cavan Institute in September 2019. "In the year 2019 September, I studied Makeup Artistry in Cavan Institute and received my Fashion, Media and Theatre ITEC Diploma. I loved this course and it was fun to do and I learned many new things throughout the year. I especially enjoyed doing Special Effects as I love doing special effects makeup looks and Halloween is my favourite time of the year. Another favourite element of the course for me was doing the 1920-1980’s period looks, as it was fun to do makeup and dress up my model and create an overall look. I made some good friends in my class and my tutor Patricia was very helpful and encouraging throughout the year. I am so glad I did this course as it was a great experience. After completing my Makeup Artistry Course, in the Summer I started my own makeup and eyelash extensions business from home. I will be attending The Beauty Institute in Athlone to do a Facial Electrical Treatment course and also Brow Lamination and Lash Lift day courses throughout the year and I’m really exited for that!" - Monika Cerekaviciute | Cavan Institute
"There was no doubt in my mind about choosing to enrol in Cavan Institute after seeing the successes my friends have reached in their careers by attending this college. It was the best decision I had ever made to attend here, not only because I got to expand my knowledge and earn a qualification in doing so, but also because I made friends for life who share similar interests as myself. I have my class tutors to thank as they were extremely supportive throughout the year and always offered a helping hand, even if I just needed a chat, or some guidance with an assignment. Every single module that this course delivered was extremely beneficial. I found that having work experience as a module was especially useful because I got hands-on experience in this field of work and will now feel confident seeking full-time employment once I complete my Level 6 in Early Childhood Care and Education next year. I am also very delighted to say that I managed to get a summer job in the creche I did my work experience in. If there was no work experience module, I would not have gotten this amazing opportunity. I know just how nerve-wrecking it can be having to sit a big exam at the end of the year, containing questions about everything you’ve had to take in from September until May. In that situation, a lot of us would crack under pressure and underperform, affecting our final grades. Luckily, Cavan Institute takes a different approach to assess their students, called continuous assessment. I found this method of assessment to be much more effective than any other form of assessment. Having guest speakers come in and talk to us students was very advantageous as it gave us a greater insight as to what childcare and special needs assisting entails. We also got to do a Patient Moving and Handling course, first aid course, and a Lámh course. These courses are very beneficial to us students and I’m incredibly grateful that the college, along with my class tutors, provided us with an opportunity to complete them. I am so happy I chose to enrol in Cavan Institute and I cannot wait to return this September to complete Level 6 Early Childhood Care and Education." Wishing you all the very best in your studies and career Monika. "I was very impressed with this course. As I didn't study a third language for my LC I was unable to go to university so I came to Cavan College to get that third language in, which then helped me get into university. I am now studying at Maynooth University. I would recommend this course to anyone with an interest in Irish History." - Eli Mellor | Cavan Institute
Eli from Lough Gowna, Cavan studied year 1 and year 2 of the Sports Therapy /Physiotherapy Studies at Cavan Institute and progressed to study Physiotherapy in Fontys University of Applied Sciences in Eindhoven, Holland. "Without Cavan Institute, I doubt that I would be in the position that I am in today. I knew that I would not get the points needed in the Leaving Cert to do a Physiotherapy Course in Ireland, so I used Cavan Institute as a stepping stone to get into a University abroad. The course itself in Cavan Institute is filled with interesting topics such as Anatomy and Physiology, Injury Treatment and Prevention, Nutrition and Taping and Strapping. The knowledge that I attained in this course gave me a great start to University. I had a good foundation in the basics of Physiotherapy. Outside of the course, the college is perfect for educating people on how to prepare for life in University by allowing them to take on a more responsible role in their education. This includes completing assignments, practising self-study and meeting deadlines. If progressing into physiotherapy is not for you, there are still opportunities available to work within the sports sector. Before I started my physiotherapy degree, I gained knowledge during the Summer of 2018 by working with various football and soccer teams as a sports physio throughout the Cavan-Leitrim region, but mainly with Gowna GAA. It allowed me to develop my skills in taping and strapping, performing sports massage and using first aid as well. All of these skills are very desirable in the world of sport. My two years in Cavan Institute have allowed me to pursue my dream of becoming a Physiotherapist and for that, I would definitely recommend Cavan Institute for anyone who wants to do Physiotherapy or become a Sports Physio."
