  • Chloe Creighton | Cavan Institute

Chloe from Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan attended Inver College, Carrickmacross. Chloe completed the QQI Level 5 Make-up Artistry in Cavan Institute in May 2017. "I have always had a passion for Makeup Artistry and from a young age I new that it was the career path that I was going to follow. In my final year of school I spent a lot of time searching for courses which were solely focused on makeup artistry. Most of them were private, which came with a big price and I began to think would it be worth it? Until one day my career guidance teacher told me about Cavan Institute and their Makeup Artistry course that covered all aspects of makeup artistry and offered you your full ITEC Diploma, just like a private college would but for a lot less. I decided to go for the course and it was the best decision I've made. The course covered everything from skincare & hygiene to makeup artistry & business skills which helped shape the makeup artist that I am today. My makeup artistry tutor Patricia Loughlin had a huge impact on me throughout the year, she pushed me to the best of my ability and helped me to not lose focus on the end result. Patricia puts so much time and effort into each and every student with projects, portfolios and assignments which made our college experience a lot less stressful and more enjoyable. After a full year of hard work and dedication to makeup artistry, I was delighted to pass all my exams and receive my ITEC Diploma. I can't thank all the amazing tutors enough for pushing me and helping me along the way. Since completion of this course I was lucky enough to have been offered my dream job with Inglot Dundalk, just 4 months after qualifying. I want to push myself within the company and achieve as much as I can, and with hard work and dedication I was promoted to Inglot Dundalk's Product Specialist in January. Inglot Ireland hosted their first ever annual awards ceremony in March 2018. I was nominated as a finalist under the category Product Specialist of the Year. After the voting stages were over, I attended the the awards ceremony. On the night I was so grateful and overwhelmed to have won and be presented the award for Inglot Ireland's first ever Product Specialist of the year. This is just the beginning! With hard work, motivation and dedication I will continue to grow and achieve all that I possibly can in the future!" Overview Content Progression Requirements Fees Previous Course Next Course Nathan Cassidy Music and Sound Production After receiving my Leaving Cert results in 2019 I was very disappointed with my results as I just missed out on my CAO course by 6 points as I wanted to go to Maynooth University. I knew that I wanted to study music in college, but I didn’t want to repeat my leaving cert. So, I decided to do a level 5 QQI/Btec course in music and sound production here in Cavan Institute. Little did I know that doing a PLC in Cavan Institute was the best thing for me at that time, as I made a lot of new friends who were interested in music as much as I am. In my course, I got to learn the piano and I improved on my music theory also. When I went to Cavan Institute I had little to no knowledge about music production nor music technology which was a worry for me at first but with the help of my tutors and my fellow colleagues I learned so much about the production/technology side of the course. Studying in Cavan Institute has taught me very important skills for college such as getting used to ‘Moodle’, academic referencing in assignments was very important for me to learn as I'll always have to do that in college. I also learned how to take in information in a college unlike secondary school, college has a different way of teaching you the information you need for your assignments/exams. • Emma Dowd | Cavan Institute

Emma came to Cavan Institute to study on our Professional Cookery course. Emma has a passion for cooking and she wants to be a chef. She is currently working in Lisgrey House in Virginia, Cavan. Emma told us that "after going to an open day in Cavan Institute, I got an insight into what I would be doing on the professional cookery course. The course helped me build my confidence in my cooking skills as well as my multitasking and organizational skills which are important for being a chef. The course also helped me as I completed 40 days of work experience in a hotel kitchen. This gave me an insight into how a professional kitchen was run and I would have never gotten this experience only for the course. The highlight of the year for me was the Spring meal event that my class and I organised. We planned the event ourselves from drafting up menus to cooking the dishes and I really enjoyed the process as it allowed me to be creative. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Cavan Institute and would recommend the Professional Cookery course to anyone who has a passion for cooking and wants to improve their skills in the kitchen. I also had the opportunity to travel to France with Leargas and Erasmus+ which was an amazing experience to work in a French kitchen. I can thoroughly say that the experience was amazing." • Andrea Pownall | Cavan Institute

Andrea from Virginia, Co. Cavan studied Pre-University Law at Cavan Institute and progressed to Maynooth University to study Law and Psychology. “I have always had a keen interest in Law, however, school just wasn’t for me. I ended up leaving secondary school in sixth year and I didn’t complete my Leaving Certificate. At the time, I thought that I had completely ruined my chances of becoming a solicitor and working in the legal industry. I applied for the Pre-University Law course at Cavan Institute, expecting not to get accepted. One year later, I am now heading to Maynooth University to study Law and Psychology. I am so thankful to everyone at Cavan Institute for their continued support throughout the whole year. All of the tutors did their absolute best to ensure that I was having an enjoyable and reasonably stress-free experience at Cavan Institute. They motivated me to work hard and without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Not only did I learn the key basics of the legal system through classes such as Business Law and Criminal Law, but, I am now more prepared for entering into the university environment. I have learned key essay writing skills; thanks to my Communications class and I know how to complete research for important assignments. I will forever be grateful to Cavan Institute for believing in me and for giving me the opportunity and skills necessary to go to university. Thank you so much.” Andrea Pownall Pre-University Law Andrea Pownall Pre-University Law Student testimonials Previous Next

  • Ewelyn Oliveria Mac Uaid | Cavan Institute

"Before the course started, I had no idea of what was to come but as soon as classes started, I realised I was in the right place. The modules for this course were very beneficial; we got to learn about the development of children and what to expect from each age group. We learned how to prepare activities for infants and how they can be beneficial to their development. During the year I also got a chance to take part in different courses and workshops. Cavan Institute provided all students with first aid, manual handling and the building communications workshop which better prepared us to work in the Early Years Sector. When the year started, I was scared and did not think I was going to manage the course but everything was very manageable as the tutors helped, assisted and guided me throughout the whole course; making the experience more enjoyable and less stressful. At Cavan Institute, people come in with a dream and leave with a career. Going to college in Ireland was something I have always wanted but did not think was possible. From the very high rates to the long list of documents required, this dream seemed very difficult to reach but Cavan Institute made this dream reachable." Thank you for your very kind and inspirational words Ewelyn. We wish you all the best in your career.
