I decided to go to Cavan Institute to prepare myself for University. As I was living at home I could work part-time as well as do my studies, this gave me an opportunity to save up before moving to college. Studying science and laboratory techniques at Cavan Institute gave me an excellent grasp on the essential skills that I will need in university. As a result of completing this course, I have learned the importance of completing assignments on time, submitting them online and referencing researched information correctly. I loved how the modules in this course had a balance between practical and theory classes. This helped to keep me engaged and gave me a deeper understanding of the topics. We went on field trips throughout the year. I enjoyed visiting Maynooth University to do an investigation on the effect of TB on milk production in cows. I found it very interesting. I would like to thank my class tutor Nora Hennessey, for her continuous support, encouragement, and guidance all year. Without her, I would not have got my 10 distinctions. I had the privilege of being selected to travel to Tartu, Estonia on an Erasmus trip. I worked in a veterinary surgical practice and a milk analysis laboratory. I got the opportunity to experience the Estonian culture which certainly was one of the highlights of the year. I would like to thank Dawn Graham for her hard work organising this opportunity. I was part of the student council which helped organise multiple events for the college community throughout the year. I would like to thank Anne Traynor for her continuous support for events all year. She has all students’ best interests at heart. As a result of completing my year in Cavan Institute, I am going on to study a Masters in Diagnostic Radiography in Robert Gordon University Aberdeen. I am grateful for all the support from staff members in Cavan Institute for helping me achieve this. "I choose to study this course as I had just completed my leaving certificate and I was very unsure about what career path I wanted to take before heading to a University. The Business Studies course was very educational and highly beneficial. Throughout the year, I studied 10 different modules, work experience being mandatory. The tutors were very helpful and were always there to guide and support the students. This course gave me great practical skills and really boosted my confidence while completing presentations and submitting class assignments. The highlight of the year for me would be the Erasmus Trip in which I got the opportunity to travel to Slovenia with the college to work in a business environment for two weeks. This trip really broadened my understanding of business while travelling and taking in a new culture which is something I would love to do in the future. The work experience trip made me realise that I wanted to pursue my studies in Business. BSc (Hons) in Intellectual Disability Nursing QQI Level 7 Course Code NI Major Award Code 5M4349 Apply Now About This Course This is a unique access route into the BSc (Hons) in Intellectual Disability Nursing across three ETB campuses in Cavan, Monaghan, and Louth/Meath Region, aimed at widening participation to communities and individuals who would not traditionally consider third-level education as an option. Intellectual Disability Nursing is a specialised branch of nursing that focuses on supporting people with intellectual disabilities to live healthy, fulfilling, and independent lives. These nurses work with individuals who may have challenges with learning, communication, and daily living skills. Their role is to promote health, provide care, and advocate for the rights and inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities in all areas of life. Incorporating the Level 5 Nursing Studies and the BSc (Hons) in Intellectual Disability Nursing, this innovative programme is one that will give students the opportunity to students to start their preparation for the Intellectual Disability Nursing degree programme in the FE sector, leading to direct access to the third-level college. Students will spend the first year of this programme in their local ETB (Education Training Board) and then progress to Dundalk Institute of Technology to undertake their four-year BSc (Hons) in Intellectual Disability Nursing programme.
