  • Siobhan O’Reilly | Cavan Institute

Siobhan O’Reilly from Crosserlough, Co Cavan completed the QQI Level 5 Occupational Therapy Studies course at Cavan Institute in 2019/20. She completed her LC in St. Clare’s College, Ballyjamesduff and decided to progress her studies at Cavan Institute in an effort to take the first step in becoming and Occupational Therapist. After successfully completing her course she used her QQI Level 5 award and applied through UCAS (UK based organisation whose main role is to operate the application process for British Universities) for the Masters in Occupational Therapy at Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen and was offered a place on the programme. Siobhan says that “during my year at Cavan Institute studying Occupational Therapy Studies, I made so many new friends both in my course and in other courses. The atmosphere was always very pleasant and welcoming. I found the subjects fascinating in my course and really enjoyed learning what occupational therapy is and the many ways in which occupational therapists help people to recover and live with their congenital or acquired injuries. As a result of completing this course at Cavan Institute I am now heading to Aberdeen and to get my Masters in Occupational Therapy. It was always my goal to get my masters and being able to do so within 4 years is ideal! Unfortunately, my course will be online for the first semester but I am still moving over to student accommodation and there will be loads of opportunities to meet people in my course and on the university football team. I feel more than prepared for this high-intensity and professional course as a result of the work I did in CI and the assignments given by the tutors. They were very practical assignments and really gave me a feel for the work I will be doing in the future.” Siobhan O’Reilly Occupational Therapy Studies Siobhan O’Reilly Occupational Therapy Studies Student testimonials Previous Next

  • Lana McGahern | Cavan Institute

Lana is from Longford and attended Moyne Community School. Lana studied 3D Design & Graphics in 2019-2020 at Cavan Institute. Lana is currently studying Interior Architecture and Design degree at ATU Sligo. Lana chose to go to Cavan Institute after her leaving cert because she was not fully sure what design discipline she wanted to study in college. Lana told us about her journey at Cavan Institute: "I went to the career days and open days at Cavan Institute during the summer and talked with career guidance who guided me in the direction of doing a general design course. This allowed me to study all areas of design and help me decide what area I wanted to go on to study. I think this really helped me see which areas I was best in and which areas I gravitated towards more, although I enjoyed learning new software's (AutoCAD, Photoshop & Solid Works) and also the practical elements of the course (furniture making etc.).I knew I most enjoyed doing AutoCAD. The modules were all helpful to me and all the tutors were really interested in the work you were doing. This was something I felt really made me enjoy my time in Cavan Institute, you had the independence of a college feeling and the work you were doing but help was there all the time whenever you needed it. I think what helped me most in Cavan Institute was how the tutors taught you the very basics and worked the way up to show you everything, this really allowed me to learn how assignments had to be done to the highest standard, even when it was something simple. The continuous help from all my tutors was beneficial to me, they helped you through all your assignments and guided you from the start to the end of the assignments. My course was all continuous assessment which I enjoyed, this broke up the year and did not have you focused on one exam at the end of the year and rather had you working through from the beginning to the end and build a portfolio of work. This helped you to enjoy the classes you were in and the work you were doing in class was going to be marked and graded so you really tried your best when doing it." • Emma Carolan | Cavan Institute

"I choose Cavan Institute because it was convenient to me and I had heard good reports about the college and tutors. During my second year at Cavan Institute, studying Early Childhood Care and Education Year 2 , I received great assistance and support from my tutors. Work experience was very beneficial to me as it allowed me to gain an understanding of the work environment and what employers expect of their workers. I also learned about the day to day running of a childcare setting. As a result of my work experience, I have been given a full-time position in my work placement childcare setting. I developed skills in assignment presentation as well as communication skills. Cavan Institute is a great learning environment, but there is also a good social aspect of it. There were numerous days in which events were arranged for us to attend e.g. Mental Health Awareness, Well Being etc." We wish you all the best in your career Emma and thanks for sharing your story with us. • Chloe Creighton | Cavan Institute

Chloe from Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan attended Inver College, Carrickmacross. Chloe completed the QQI Level 5 Make-up Artistry in Cavan Institute in May 2017. "I have always had a passion for Makeup Artistry and from a young age I new that it was the career path that I was going to follow. In my final year of school I spent a lot of time searching for courses which were solely focused on makeup artistry. Most of them were private, which came with a big price and I began to think would it be worth it? Until one day my career guidance teacher told me about Cavan Institute and their Makeup Artistry course that covered all aspects of makeup artistry and offered you your full ITEC Diploma, just like a private college would but for a lot less. I decided to go for the course and it was the best decision I've made. The course covered everything from skincare & hygiene to makeup artistry & business skills which helped shape the makeup artist that I am today. My makeup artistry tutor Patricia Loughlin had a huge impact on me throughout the year, she pushed me to the best of my ability and helped me to not lose focus on the end result. Patricia puts so much time and effort into each and every student with projects, portfolios and assignments which made our college experience a lot less stressful and more enjoyable. After a full year of hard work and dedication to makeup artistry, I was delighted to pass all my exams and receive my ITEC Diploma. I can't thank all the amazing tutors enough for pushing me and helping me along the way. Since completion of this course I was lucky enough to have been offered my dream job with Inglot Dundalk, just 4 months after qualifying. I want to push myself within the company and achieve as much as I can, and with hard work and dedication I was promoted to Inglot Dundalk's Product Specialist in January. Inglot Ireland hosted their first ever annual awards ceremony in March 2018. I was nominated as a finalist under the category Product Specialist of the Year. After the voting stages were over, I attended the the awards ceremony. On the night I was so grateful and overwhelmed to have won and be presented the award for Inglot Ireland's first ever Product Specialist of the year. This is just the beginning! With hard work, motivation and dedication I will continue to grow and achieve all that I possibly can in the future!"
