- Anne McKenna | Cavan Institute
Anne from Clones, Co Monaghan studied year 1 and year 2 Beauty Therapy at Cavan Institute. "I started studying Beauty Therapy in Cavan Institute September 2013 and finished in May 2015. I graduated with qualifications in FETAC/QQI, which is an Irish qualification and also in CIDESCO, ITEC and CIBTAC which are recognised worldwide. I also had the opportunity to gain extra certificates throughout my time there, which is important in an industry that is constantly changing and growing. The Beauty Therapy course is made up of a variety of modules, which are a mix of practical and theory classes. What I loved most about my time at Cavan Institute was working closely with the lecturers who were all so helpful and passionate about giving us the best possible education. After leaving Cavan Institute, I began working in ESPA at Powerscourt Hotel in Wicklow, which is one of the leading spas in Ireland. It has won many awards over the years including Best European Spa in the World Luxury Spa Awards last year. I recently found out I won Employee of the Year 2016, which has been one of my proudest moments. I believe that my time at Cavan Institute really prepared me for working in such a highly regarded spa, and helped me develop my professional skills which were key in winning this award". Conor from Kells, Co Meath attended St Ciaran s Community School, Kells. When I completed my Leaving Cert, An Garda Síochána was not recruiting. I attended Cavan Institute for two years studying Security Studies and Security Operations and Administrations. Completing both courses helped me build a strong foundation that assisted me in joining An Garda Síochána. The classes I attended at Cavan Institute prepared me for what was to come while training in Templemore. Currently I am a Trainee Garda and I am nearly finished phase one of my training. I could not have got this far without the help and guidance I received from the Security Studies team at Cavan Institute.' - Anita Maguire | Cavan Institute
Anita from Ballyjamesduff, Co. Cavan completed the one year Diploma in Complementary Therapy course at Cavan Institute in May 2017. "I met with the staff of Cavan Institute at the open day, following this up with telephone calls and some serious soul searching before I enrolled on the Complementary Therapies course in September 2016. Holistics, mental health and stress management are areas I have always been fascinated with and here was my opportunity to learn more in a structured environment and gain a recognised qualification. As a professional who worked for 20 plus years in accounting and finance roles this was a complete diversion and major decision to return to full time education. The course was intensive, more than I envisaged, because it followed both QQI/FETAC and ITEC (internationally recognised) programmes. As a class we were exposed to an all round experience from running an onsite clinic to practical case studies, presentations, diet planning, developing creams and lotions, marketing and design and 2 weeks work experience but through hard work and the support of highly trained and passionate tutors and amazing classmates I completed the course in May 2017. It has been my personal journey and was right for me at that moment. Who knows what the future holds but I am thrilled to be awarded ITEC Diplomas in Aromatherapy, Reflexology, Holistic Massage and Indian Head Massage along with QQI/FETAC Certificate in Community Health Services all at distinction level. I put in 100% effort and enjoyed the whole experience as a mature student, a big thank you Cavan Institute." Niamh is from Ballyjamesduff, Co Cavan. She attended St Clare's College, Ballyjamesduff. Niamh studied year 1 and year 2 of the Creative Digital Media course at Cavan Institute. Niamh committed fully to her studies and engaged with every event and task assigned during her time at Cavan Institute. Niamh is deferring her college degree in Multimedia in DCU as she takes up a Junior Designer role at Opus Web Design at Cavan Digital Hub. No doubt Niamh's excellent design skills and knowledge will be well utilised. Niamh told us that "Cavan Institute is such a good stepping stone to getting what you want to do in life. I was inexperienced after my Leaving Cert and was super disappointed with my results, but going to Cavan Institute has helped me so much in doing what I want to do with my life. I’ve had the opportunity to go work in Finland through Léargas and Erasmus+ and attended an Adobe Design competition in London. Before COVID-19 hit, I had an opportunity to do an Internship in America for a year. However, I got my dream job out of Cavan Institute which I am in right now. The tutors in CI are really kind and understanding. A PLC is definitely worth doing if you don’t know where to go from Leaving Cert."
