- Geraldine Dowd | Cavan Institute
Geraldine from Ballyhaise, Co. Cavan completed the QQI Level 6 course in Administration and IT for Business in Cavan Institute in May 2020. "I attended Cavan Institute in the 2019/2020 academic year as a full-time student on the Administration & IT for Business (Year 2) course. I was a mature student and went back to college to refresh my administration skills and to upskill my computer skills at the same time. I wanted to go back into the workforce. The course itself was very interesting with a range of modules including Administration Practice, Payroll Manual & Computerised, Bookkeeping Manual & Computerised, Banking & Insurance, Front Office Skills, Spreadsheets, Word Processing, Work Experience & Communications. I enjoyed my time in Cavan Institute and at no time did I feel any different from any other student, being a mature student. Once in the classroom, everyone was there to learn and work as a team. The support from tutors was excellent. They were always ready to listen and help out when any student was struggling. As part of the course, there is an opportunity to go out on work experience for two weeks, which was both a confidence boost and very enjoyable being back in the office environment. The tutors in the different modules help prepare the students before they went out on their work experience. In the Communication module, for example, there was CV preparation and interview skills, Front Office and Administration Practice with telephone skills and front office skills and internal communication and practices within the office environment. Unfortunately, COVID 19 disturbed college life as we knew it back in March 2020 but we continued the course online from home with the help of our tutors and got to the complete the course which was an achievement in itself. We learned extra skills that will be of benefit to us by learning online, Teams meetings and presentations which would not have been the case if we had completed the course traditionally. So, you might say with every negative there is a positive! Having completed the course, I feel more confident with the new skills that I have learned and I’m ready for the next challenge. I highly recommend Cavan Institute and it has so many courses to choose from, for people like myself who either wish to go back to work or change their career by following their dream career. Cavan Institue opens many doors or pathways to any career for anyone who wishes to pursue it.” Geraldine Dowd Administration and IT for Business Year 2 Geraldine Dowd Administration and IT for Business Year 2 Student testimonials Previous Next

- Strategic Plan | Cavan Institute | Cavan, Ireland
Cavan Institute's strategic plan reflects two years of staff-led collaboration, focused on excellence, innovation, and embracing change for future success. Strategic Plan This strategic plan, the culmination of two years’ work by a wide variety of stakeholders, has been driven largely by Cavan Institute’s staff, who have demonstrated their capacity to identify new opportunities, seek excellence and embrace change. They have been central to the Institute’s success and will readily accept the responsibilities associated with the implementation of the proposed strategy. The development of the plan involved extensive teamwork. In addition to a Strategic Planning Steering Group, led by the management team, working groups were established for specific tasks. The contribution of staff members who joined these groups was highly significant in that they conducted the research, undertook the data collection and put forward ideas of central importance to the future of the Institute. Institute students and graduates, who were consulted by different means and at various stages, have also helped to shape this vision. The involvement of staff from post-primary schools, Youthreach, the adult education sector, Institutes of Technology (AIT, DKIT and ITB) and NUI Maynooth has helped to determine the thrust of the final document and, through an ongoing partnership, to reflect the important role played by this Institute in Irish further education. It is expected that the extent and level of consultation associated with this plan will provide added credibility to its ultimate aim, which is to enrich the lives and enhance the career prospects of each student whom Cavan Institute is privileged to serve Download More from Cavan Institute Courses All Courses Apply Online Start Here Supports Support Services FAQs Get Answers Contact Us If you have any questions, please get in touch. Siobhan O’Reilly from Crosserlough, Co Cavan completed the QQI Level 5 Occupational Therapy Studies course at Cavan Institute in 2019/20. She completed her LC in St. Clare’s College, Ballyjamesduff and decided to progress her studies at Cavan Institute in an effort to take the first step in becoming and Occupational Therapist. After successfully completing her course she used her QQI Level 5 award and applied through UCAS (UK based organisation whose main role is to operate the application process for British Universities) for the Masters in Occupational Therapy at Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen and was offered a place on the programme. Siobhan says that “during my year at Cavan Institute studying Occupational Therapy Studies, I made so many new friends both in my course and in other courses. The atmosphere was always very pleasant and welcoming. I found the subjects fascinating in my course and really enjoyed learning what occupational therapy is and the many ways in which occupational therapists help people to recover and live with their congenital or acquired injuries. As a result of completing this course at Cavan Institute I am now heading to Aberdeen and to get my Masters in Occupational Therapy. It was always my goal to get my masters and being able to do so within 4 years is ideal! Unfortunately, my course will be online for the first semester but I am still moving over to student accommodation and there will be loads of opportunities to meet people in my course and on the university football team. I feel more than prepared for this high-intensity and professional course as a result of the work I did in CI and the assignments given by the tutors. They were very practical assignments and really gave me a feel for the work I will be doing in the future.” Siobhan O’Reilly Occupational Therapy Studies Siobhan O’Reilly Occupational Therapy Studies Student testimonials Previous Next

- Paul McArdle | Cavan Institute
Paul from Cootehill, Co Cavan attended Beech Hill College, Monaghan. "I came to Cavan Institute in September 2016 to do the Nursing Studies course with the intention of trying to get to adult nursing in Dublin. I had left school at 15 without any education. After only two months at Cavan Institute I discovered it was possible to study adult nursing in the UK. I then applied for some universities in London and also in Dublin. With the results I gained at Cavan institute I was offered two universities in London and also Trinity College Dublin. I am 100 percent certain I would not be at London South Bank University today without having attended Cavan Institute last year. I am at present half way through my first year and doing my placements at one of the bigger hospitals in the centre of London. Doing the nursing studies course was the perfect stepping stone for my first year at London South Bank University. The first year at university is very similar to the year I had at Cavan Institute. I found all the Cavan Institute lecturers in the nursing studies course very helpful and they work tirelessly to help students gain places at different universities. This varies from helping with personal statements or advice on nursing matters as all the lecturers at Cavan Institute are fully experienced nurses with different nursing backgrounds. The nursing studies course is designed perfectly in all modules to help the nursing student progress to the next academic level. Also while at Cavan institute I was chairperson of the students committee. I found this a great way of meeting other students studying in other disciplines. Once again, I am very grateful to everyone at Cavan Institute for giving me the opportunity that I have now in front of me in the UK and my future career as a nurse."
