  • Tracey O'Rourke | Cavan Institute

Tracey is from Cavan and attended Breifne College, Cavan. Tracey completed QQI Level 5 and Level 6 in Early Childhood Care and Education in Cavan Institute. "When I completed my Level 6 award, I then applied to Letterkenny Institute of Technology via direct entry. This got me into a Higher Certificate level 6 [Year 2 of the Degree]. I am now currently in my 1st Year of my level 7 Degree. I successfully completed my exams in January and then on the last week of January I started my 12 week placement in an early childhood care and education placement in Donegal. When I attended Cavan Institute to complete my Level 5 and Level 6 modules in Early Childhood Care and Education, to be honest, it was tough. There was a lot of work involved, so I just studied and knuckled down as this is what I wanted to do. Some days were better than others and there are days I guess I wanted to give up but I didn't, I pushed on. My tutors in Cavan Institute were such an amazing help and if it wasn't for them and the girls in my class I don’t think I would have got to this point in my studies. The most important skills I developed when doing the course was to know that we all have goals we want to achieve, and sometimes it can be hard to reach the goals but that it is important to be learning in a supportive environment. I saw how important it is to also help each other as much as we can. Everyone is aiming to achieve the same goals at the end of the day! And most of all, never be afraid to ask for help as it was always on hand and the tutors were amazing at it. Cavan Institute prepares you so well for progressing onto another college. The work is tough but it’s extremely beneficial in the long run. I never thought I would have gotten this far, four years are almost complete with my final year to go. Hopefully in May 2019, I will be graduating with a Level 8 Honours Degree in Early Childhood Care Health and Education. If I can do it so can you!" • Kevin Patterson Hayes | Cavan Institute

Kevin from Carlanstown, Co Meath studied year 1 and year 2 of the Hairdressing course at Cavan Institute. "In the down turn in the economy, I found myself wanting to up-skill in the workplace, I had always had a keen interest in Hairdressing and decided that at 41 years of age, it was the time. Next for me was to find the right college and that was Cavan Institute. Cavan Institute was ideally located, very affordable and importantly, offered a worldwide recognised City and Guilds International Diploma that could be used anywhere. Throughout the course I had fantastic mentoring, continuous assessment of my improving skills and was able to participate in an overseas student exchange programme. Since finishing my studies I have kept full time employment in a job I love and I am in the process of opening a new business in the coming months. I would highly recommend Cavan Institute and their friendly staff and tutors to anyone with aspirations, of any age, to enhance their knowledge or skills." Thomas believes that the Motor Vehicle Maintenance course at Cavan Institute with its practical aspect also helps the student with other subjects such as electronics, motor vehicle theory, team working and auto electricity Thomas said "I enjoyed attending Cavan Institute and found the pace and content of classes ideal". Thomas completed the course in May 2016 and attained a Full Award with Distinction in all subjects. Thomas has now enrolled in DIT Bolton Street where he will study a level 7 Degree in Engineering. • Daniel Morgan | Cavan Institute

Daniel Morgan from Killygarry, Co Cavan, studied the Sports Therapy/Physiotherapy Assistant course at Cavan Institute and progressed to Queen Margaret University Edinburgh where he is beginning his 4th and final year of BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy course. “It is safe to say I would not be where I am today without having chosen to go to Cavan Institute. I knew I wouldn’t get the leaving cert points required to get a place on a BSc Physiotherapy course, so I did the Sports Therapy/Physiotherapy Assistant course as a stepping stone to get to University. The course is ideal for anyone hoping to become a Physiotherapist as I learned about anatomy and physiology, exercise and fitness, injury treatment and prevention and nutrition. These are basic skills required for any Physiotherapist. The course also helps prepare you for University e.g. completing assignments, meeting deadlines, taking responsibility for your own learning as well as giving you a strong base of knowledge. The course is not just for those wanting to be Physiotherapists, its ideal for anyone wanting to work in the sports industry. I’ve worked with rugby and football teams using my sports massage, first aid, taping and strapping skills as well as helping players recover from injury by developing personalised exercises programs. All these skills can be used in any sports. I really enjoyed my two years at Cavan Institute and would highly recommend it to anyone that wants to be a Physiotherapist or work in sports."
