- Gemma McGrane | Cavan Institute
Gemma is from Kells, Co Meath "I attended Cavan Institute to take part in their Business Studies Level 5 Course as I was unsure what I wanted to do in college. I felt that Business was a good all round course to take part in. I really enjoyed the course as it gave me an insight into the world of business and the skills I would need to succeed in the area. The content of the course was informative and gave me the ability to see how I would use this information in different areas of business as it was very practical. I have been accepted to the Bachelor of Business course at DKIT. I feel like I am going into this course with acquired knowledge of what to expect and feel fully prepared as Cavan Institute introduced me to assignments and how to get them submitted working against a deadline. The tutors at Cavan Institute strive to ensure you get your best result and experience out of Cavan Institute. They were always there if you struggled with a particular topic and ensured you grasped it. - Tara O’Callaghan | Cavan Institute
Tara is from Virginia, Co Cavan and attended St Clare’s College Secondary School. Tara studied Theatre Performance in Cavan Institute from September 2021 to June 2022. Tara is progressing to study her BA Level 7 Performing Arts (Acting) in Sligo University. “I chose Cavan Institute because I wanted to learn more about acting as I want to be an actor in the future. My modules helped me because they gave me a better understanding of acting and the theatre industry. My tutors and classmates helped me with the practical side of acting, as well as doing work experience. While doing my work experience, I found it very beneficial because it gave me a better understanding of working in a theatre setting. While in this course I learnt how to achieve my acting career by applying to higher educational progression links. Also, I would say that this course has greatly helped me develop my confidence. I would advise students to give the Theatre Performance Course good consideration as you will meet like-minded people and develop skills and confidence in a supportive environment. I am progressing to Sligo University to study Performing Arts (Acting) to achieve a BA Level 7 Degree.” Good luck with your studies and future career Tara. Alan McCormack - Bailieborough, Co Cavan. Alan is currently studying for his Professional Masters in Social Work in UCD. He is also working as a social care worker. "Without my time at Cavan Institute, I would not be doing what I am doing now. The friendly helpful learning environment at Cavan Institute set me on my way to becoming a Social Worker with a level 9 qualification. The level 8 honours degree secured me a place on the Social Work Masters programme and also a job in Social Care so that I could pay for that Masters qualification. It all started in Cavan Institute. Without the firm foundation I got there, I would still be stuck in a job I hated." Thanks for your input Alan. Hopefully you will inspire others to make a change and choose Cavan Institute to start a new path of discovery. - Abigail Brennan | Cavan Institute
Abigail Brennan joined us in September 2021. She is from Longford and tells her story here. "In 2021, I was unsure of what career path to follow. After researching many courses, I decided on the Office Administration and Technology course at Cavan Institute. It has a range of both practical and theoretical modules, with good employment and progression opportunities. Travel to the college was convenient for me and the fees were low. The course has more than met my expectations and has been enjoyable, rewarding and confidence boosting. The teachers are all, without exception, enthusiastic, encouraging, helpful, supportive and positive. Work experience is a key element of the course, and we were required to find a ten-day placement. I had no experience of office work and was unsure of how to find a placement that would be beneficial, suitable and enjoyable for me. My work experience teacher gave me advice on job finding, CV preparation and interview skills as well as the contact details of local employers who were, at that time, offering placements to suitable candidates. This gave me the confidence to apply for and secure a part time receptionist’s job at the Cavan Crystal Hotel. This I have been able to do at weekends whilst I complete my course. A collaborative approach to learning is encouraged and, as a result, our class group were really friendly and sociable both online and on site. It was a very effective way to work and learn and it helped us all progress very well. There was a good mix of students with some who had just left school, mature students and both male and female in the class. It meant we mixed with people of different ages and backgrounds and nationalities. We forged great friendships and made time for tea breaks and laughter along the way. Under the guidance of our tutor, we became a connected and inclusive group. My advice is if you are unsure of what career path to follow the Office Administration and Technology course is a great place to start as the skills learned are useful no matter what area of work you eventually decide to enter."
