I am currently employed as a Technical Project Manager within the Aircraft Redelivery Department in Santos Dumont, primarily focusing on the management of aircraft transitions between the airlines, lessors, and aircraft owners, technical records audit, aircraft physical inspections, and aircraft repossession at the time of airline default. Like every student out there when I completed my Leaving Certificate, I had no idea which course to choose and where I wanted to go and study further. The only interests I had were in aviation, business and languages. After spending some time searching the available courses that provided the opportunity to study all three, I chose to go to Cavan Institute and study Tourism. After completing the course, it gave me a clear understanding of where and how to move further using the Higher Education Links Scheme (HELS). After much thought and deliberation around CAO time, I went the aviation route which brought me to where I am now. The tourism course itself gives you a good overall understanding of tourism, heritage, aviation and customer service and prepares you to get work in all these areas. Basically, by choosing this course you can decide where you want to progress your career further if you are still not sure after completing you Leaving Cert, and even during the course while you are still studying. I decided to go for the course and it was the best decision I've made. The course covered everything from skincare & hygiene to makeup artistry & business skills which helped shape the makeup artist that I am today. "My experience as a student of Cavan Institute can be described as many things – challenging, demanding, even difficult. While these words might sound a little negative, but I’m so grateful to have experienced these words. Where I met challenges, which may have been demanding and difficult, I was guided through them with care and expertise by my tutors, and the outcomes were always worth the intensive labour that you invested. Personally, I found the more effort, passion, creativity and time I invested in my projects and assignments, the more experienced I gained. Where I stumbled, I may have learned new tricks, a new style, technique, method or gained a better outlook. There were always resources made available to me to help me along, and if I needed help, it was always offered. Ultimately, I achieved everything I had set out to in terms of qualifications, having left with an ITEC Diploma in Make-Up Artistry as well as multiple QQI awards in my modules on the course. Laura tells us about her experience in Cavan Institute: “After not getting the high points needed for psychology in the leaving cert, I was very disappointed and unsure of my future. Following some research, I discovered that a PLC could help me get into college. I chose Cavan Institute in particular as I felt it would give me the best chance and I liked the sound of the modules. Having never properly been to Cavan, I was extremely nervous about my decision. However, I can now say that the decision to study here was the best one I could have made. Studying in Cavan Institute gave me the chance to experience living away from home for the first time. I gained independence and confidence. I always looked forward to the social aspect of college and I’ve made incredible friends along the way that I will definitely stay in contact with. On top of that, I also gained invaluable knowledge on research, IT, and the structuring of professional writing. The modules I studied solidified that psychology was the right path for me, and I learned many things that I will bring forward with me when I continue my studies. While the assignments were sometimes stressful, the tutors at Cavan Institute were always friendly and caring, and it’s clear that they put in great effort towards the success of their students. No matter the problem or query, there was always someone willing to help. As well as that, our tutors were always willing to have a laugh with us which kept our classes fun and made learning more interesting for us all.
