Commis Chef Apprenticeship QQI Level 6 Course Code YB Major Award Code Apply Now About This Course Apprentices will gain the skills and knowledge to prepare, cook and present a wide variety of dishes and commodities to a professional standard. The apprentice will gain an internationally recognised qualification, continue to earn whilst they learn with an employer of their choice, enrich their work immediately as they acquire new skills and enhance their employment prospects and career opportunities. The duration of the course is two full years. It begins with a three-week five day structured induction in college and then continues with 2 days in college per week from September to June and one day per week in July and August. I knew that I wanted to study music in college, but I didn’t want to repeat my leaving cert. So, I decided to do a level 5 QQI/Btec course in music and sound production here in Cavan Institute. Little did I know that doing a PLC in Cavan Institute was the best thing for me at that time, as I made a lot of new friends who were interested in music as much as I am. In my course, I got to learn the piano and I improved on my music theory also. When I went to Cavan Institute I had little to no knowledge about music production nor music technology which was a worry for me at first but with the help of my tutors and my fellow colleagues I learned so much about the production/technology side of the course. Studying in Cavan Institute has taught me very important skills for college such as getting used to ‘Moodle’, academic referencing in assignments was very important for me to learn as I'll always have to do that in college. I also learned how to take in information in a college unlike secondary school, college has a different way of teaching you the information you need for your assignments/exams. Erica Joyce, from Kilnaleck, attended St. Clare’s College, Ballyjamesduff. Having looked at possible routes to achieving her goal of becoming a PE teacher, Erica decided to start out on her journey by undertaking the Level 5 Sports Coaching and Leisure Management course at Cavan Institute. After graduating with Distinctions in Year 1 she completed the Level 6 Sports Development with Personal Training programme also at Cavan Institute. With her Level 6 completed, University College Cork offered Erica a place on their B.Ed. (Hons) Sports Studies and Physical Education programme and she graduated in 2019 with Honours.
