  • Anita Maguire | Cavan Institute

Anita from Ballyjamesduff, Co. Cavan completed the one year Diploma in Complementary Therapy course at Cavan Institute in May 2017. "I met with the staff of Cavan Institute at the open day, following this up with telephone calls and some serious soul searching before I enrolled on the Complementary Therapies course in September 2016. Holistics, mental health and stress management are areas I have always been fascinated with and here was my opportunity to learn more in a structured environment and gain a recognised qualification. As a professional who worked for 20 plus years in accounting and finance roles this was a complete diversion and major decision to return to full time education. The course was intensive, more than I envisaged, because it followed both QQI/FETAC and ITEC (internationally recognised) programmes. As a class we were exposed to an all round experience from running an onsite clinic to practical case studies, presentations, diet planning, developing creams and lotions, marketing and design and 2 weeks work experience but through hard work and the support of highly trained and passionate tutors and amazing classmates I completed the course in May 2017. It has been my personal journey and was right for me at that moment. Who knows what the future holds but I am thrilled to be awarded ITEC Diplomas in Aromatherapy, Reflexology, Holistic Massage and Indian Head Massage along with QQI/FETAC Certificate in Community Health Services all at distinction level. I put in 100% effort and enjoyed the whole experience as a mature student, a big thank you Cavan Institute." I am a Games Design graduate from Cavan Institute 2010. Padraig Cahill was my tutor. I have also worked at Creative Assembly 'Total War: Warhammer' along with being featured in two 3D Artist Magazines and has world wide games press online for some game art which I created. Since the age of 15, I knew that I wanted to have a life-long career making video games. When I graduated from secondary school, I saw Cavan Institute as the foundation or stepping stone towards making that dream come true. The support I received from the tutors helped steer me in the correct career direction. The course content taught was so relevant and appropriate. • Ewelyn Oliveria Mac Uaid | Cavan Institute

"Before the course started, I had no idea of what was to come but as soon as classes started, I realised I was in the right place. The modules for this course were very beneficial; we got to learn about the development of children and what to expect from each age group. We learned how to prepare activities for infants and how they can be beneficial to their development. During the year I also got a chance to take part in different courses and workshops. Cavan Institute provided all students with first aid, manual handling and the building communications workshop which better prepared us to work in the Early Years Sector. When the year started, I was scared and did not think I was going to manage the course but everything was very manageable as the tutors helped, assisted and guided me throughout the whole course; making the experience more enjoyable and less stressful. At Cavan Institute, people come in with a dream and leave with a career. Going to college in Ireland was something I have always wanted but did not think was possible. From the very high rates to the long list of documents required, this dream seemed very difficult to reach but Cavan Institute made this dream reachable." Thank you for your very kind and inspirational words Ewelyn. We wish you all the best in your career.
