  • Eamonn Cahill | Cavan Institute

Eamonn from Lisduff, Virginia, Co Cavan studied year 1 and 2 of the Multimedia and Web Development course at Cavan Institute. "I began my studies in Multimedia at Cavan Institute in 2007, not really knowing what it was I wanted to do career-wise. I knew I had a keen interest in computers and art, but I didn’t feel confident enough to pursue these interests further in employment after leaving school. Studying at Cavan Institute, I was able to explore the wider multimedia industry - learning my craft in graphic design, animation and web design - while still being able to pursue my main interest in video production. Working together with other motivated classmates and tutors, I learned first-hand how to work in a team on creative projects and got my first sense of working in the professional industry through work placements provided by the college. It was here that I first began to develop a great network of creative professionals and lifelong friends that I still often work with to this day. It was also at Cavan Institute that I developed a good understanding of the creative process and learned many of the tools and software that I use today in much of my work. Since my time studying Multimedia at Cavan Institute from 2007 - 2009, I went on to study for a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Media at Dundalk Institute of Technology – with a strong head start given to me by my studies at Cavan Institute. I then followed this with studies for an MA in Creative Media Practices at Filmbase (University of West Scotland), which included my role as Head Of Post Production & Editor on the Filmbase feature film Fading Away (2015). My time at Cavan Institute had given me a unique set of skills on which to draw on during my time here – not many video editors can claim to have experience in graphic design, animation, web design AND video production. I have since been kept busy with my freelance editor/videographer work on various productions. I have been involved in promotional work for the likes of Dublin City Council, Mountain Moot Scouting, Rogue Nation and Sky - Worked on postproduction for short films such as Late Check-Out (2015), The Legend of Fritzy & Geraldine (2016), Man To Man (2017) and The Emerald Stone (Currently in Post) – Produced video content for monthly live music event The Friday Night Platform for use online – As well as produced various music videos for artists such as Aine Cahill, Paul McCann, JJ Jupiter and Ivan McCabe. I most recently completed work as assembly editor on the new hidden camera show Senior Moments for RTE - And I am currently in post on a short documentary about independent Irish film as part of my MA studies."
